My Christmas miracle/gift!

Recommended Posts

Yeah,

I know it's a little late to be posting this but oh well. Some of you may remember my thread right before Christmas asking for vibes for my little dachshund, Camo. We got him from my aunt in September after we lost two of our dachshunds within a month of eachother:(

You can imagine my (and my family's) despair when this little guy got very sick one night. He started vomiting and became unresponsive. We immediately rushed him to the animal ER and they got him stable. He had gotten into something very toxic. The next evening we got a call from the vet and she was very concerned. She said his breathing was distressed and she didn't want to leave him alone all night, and that he probably wouldn't even make it through the night. His diagnosis was pancreatitis, a usually fatal condition.

We brought him home, and I nursed and loved him all night. By morning, he was drinking and breathing normally. The vet was amazed, and I was ecstatic!

Please add your own personal good news pet stories.

I don't know if you remember Doc from SkyFest, but as a vet, she'll tell you the fact that you were able to overcome pancreatitis - is no less than a miracle. Congrats.
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Thank you. I may have also had a little help from homeopathy.

Ahh, I'm so happy for you!! My dog's story isn't quite as dramatic, but she has a heart murmur that was pretty serious and that her regular vet was unable to stabilize. I took her to a cardiologist, who managed to do what her regular vet could not. The miracle is that she has not just stabilized, but improved. The cardiologist could not believe what he was seeing. In fact, he said this "never" happens. She was "supposed" to have died a couple of years ago, but instead is going strong! I believe in good medicine (for humans or animals), but I also believe in prayer. I think the two worked together to bring my little Elsa back from the brink!

Camo sure is a sweet dog, and he acted perfectly normal when I was there this month. That reminds me of the signoff of a radio program I listen to... "God is still in control, and prayer changes things."

I brought a rescue beagle home for a trial. The first day with me, she had a seizure... a bad one. I had to rush her to the emergency vet repeatedly over the next weeks. The rescue organization was going to put her down because they considered her to be unadoptable. I couldn't let them do that. I adopted her.

I named her Garnish. It was supposed to mean something that adds color and flavor to our lives. It ended up meaning what the vet was going to do to my paycheck when I couldn't pay the bill. I spent thousands of dollars at the vets before she was under control. She had to have two custom prescription medicines twice a day in order to control her seizures.

She was the smartest dog I have ever seen. You could just see the wheels turning in her brain trying to figure something out. She taught the other dogs how to get into trouble. She was challenging, but a really nice dog. I was able to extend her life by five years. She finally succumbed to an unrelated illness.

This is more of a good thing from the beginning. Sort of.

One night, my wife and I heard a cat outside, and couldn't find it anywhere. The next morning I walked out to the car to go to the grocery store and heard the cat again, but it was obvious that it was a distressed kitten, and that sound just kills me. I followed the sound under the car, and saw nothing. Just for curiosity, I popped the hood, and there was this tiny, flea covered, damp black and white kitten. We took her to the vet, and ended up keeping her, and her name is Mehitabel. The day I found her was 2 days after 9/11.

After so much sadness, she was a complete blessing to us. A few weeks later, we got her a playmate, Winston, who is featured in my avatar. He came from our local animal shelter.

And here they both are in full view:

Well, Kathleen, you've met my little gift. She was a feral cat living at the jobsite that I work at. I saw her a few times, and gave her food when she was around. She started adopting me as her new mommy, coming in to the job trailer and looking for me, and walking out with a disappointed look on her face if I wasn't here (that's what the guys told me at least). After a few days of daily feedings and word of an upcoming cold front, I knew I had to move fast. I was able to "catch" her, took her to the vet, got her spayed, and now she's the love of my life. She's adjusted well to apartment life. :)

I'm so happy your little guy made it. That is a miracle.

I had a golden Retriever growing up that died of pancreatitis. It was heart braking especially because it happened 4 months after I left home for college and I couldn't make it back in time to say god bye. My parents found her on the floor shaking and vomiting and rushed her to the vet but, the vet said her pancreas had already ruptured and they couldn't save her:(. They gave my parents the option to try to keep her alive for the 6 hours it would take me to get home and say good bye but, I didn't want her to suffer just for my benefit. That would be cruel.
