If anyone's interested in helping Matt pay for the new drive, donation links are all over the freaking site. :P

Seriously, guys - how many times per day do we visit and feed our addiction? Let's drop some money over there for them.

Mr. FedEx just dropped off the drive (Seagate Barracuda NS 750GB SATA).

I'm going to shut the site down now

I need to:

Yank the server out of the rack
Yank the old drive
Install the new drive
Install a new OS, might as well upgrade in the process right?
Connect the old drive
Copy all the data over (200+Gigs)
Button it all back up
Throw it back into the rack

Let dave have a look to make sure I didn't miss anything

Should be back up in a couple hours

Can't we make it so that everytime when you buy something from the sdm store a small 10-20% from the price goes to the sdm.com?

I bought 1 month ago some movies and I'm sure that I would have still bought those movies even with 10-20% extra in price.

just throwing an idea out there....

The SDM store (http://astore.amazon.com/skydivingcom-20/) works through Amazon.com. I just pick the products I want to sell on my site, and they do the work. I then get a small percent of the profit, which goes toward paying for the Amazon.com hosted file mirror. I can't set my own prices though.

Right now I'm mirroring 1.6% of the site (1.4 gigs) on Amazon.com's Simple Storage Service. So far this month, we've transferred nearly 100 gigs from Amazon alone. And this has been a pretty quiet month. Amazon's hosting is very cheap, but sales from the store would have to go WAY up to actually pay for the hosting... especially as more files get backed up there.

BTW, if you enter Amazon.com by clicking any of the ads on the bottom of SDM.com and then make a purchase of anything, I get the referral credit even though I'm not advertising that product. One more way to donate to the site.
