Rat dilemma....

Recommended Posts

Saturday morning I put a rat in the snake tank for the normal monthly feed. She doesn't want it. I have now been feeding this cohabitating rat cheerios and potato chips for 3 days.

The pet store won't take it back. I have too many critters to look after as it is. I dont' need a pet rat.

Any suggestions? [:/]

If you have a 2nd floor apartment with a patio, toss it off and watch it flail all the way to the ground. Won't kill it, hell, not even hurt it, just knock the wind out of it and it'll eventually scamper off somewhere. Friend of mine did it...

Of course, if it lets you pick it up in your hands and cuddle with you, it's a pet so you keep it. If it bites you or tries to when you get close, toss it...

I wouldnt leave it in the same cage (I wouldnt feed a snake in its living quarters anyways) if your snake is getting ready to shed and doesnt want to eat it thats fine but if you leave it in the cage the rat may gnaw on the snake...... my friends snake got a huge scar that way, not saying it will happen to yours though.......

Plus you don't want rat shit/pee all over the goddamn cage. That's unsanitary to say the least... :P

She shed 4 weeks ago and has been staring at me asking for food. And I've had that experience too. A rat killed one of my snakes with a bite that got infected :(

guess I'm going to Petco to get a rat house :|

Get a parachute toy and take the little plastic figure off - make a harness for the rat and put the chute on him - see if it likes to base jump.:)

Definitely more humane than my suggestion. :)
