Icon134 0 #1 February 2, 2007 Ok, I'm finally going to give up on my stupid Dlink Wireless router that is constantly screwing up the wireless network connection resulting in the need to reset the router periodically to get it to reconnect "correctly" to my laptop using a wireless connection. So I figured I'd ask y'all what I should get... I hope to be able to use this thing for a few years at least... so let me have it what should I get to replace my POS Dlink Router?Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... normiss 883 #3 February 2, 2007 I like the new series of N routers...Linksys without a doubt it's Cisco! NEVER a d-link...NEVER...I laugh everytime I see them...THEY SUCK!!!!! right Skymama????
Thanatos340 1 #4 February 2, 2007 QuoteI like the new series of N routers Not a fan of all this Pre-N, Draft-N. Too many potential compatibility issues. Rather wait till the standard is finalized. Besides, The cost for Pre-N or Draft-N right now is waaay too high. With the Linksys 54g and DD-Wrt you can greatly increase the speed and range of G Hardware (which most people already have). bazelos 0 #6 February 2, 2007 QuoteLinksys WRT54G, Then soon as you get it home Update the firmware to DD-WRT. Where the hell is the Rflow on the lite DD-WRT version? I am trying to run the RFlowCollectorV3 but I just can't find the settings on the router. Do they only do it on the full version? (Yes I got the crappy router with half the memory )He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.
labrys 0 #7 February 2, 2007 QuoteLinksys WRT54G, Then soon as you get it home Update the firmware to DD-WRT. If you know of a firmware that will run on a WRT54G above version 4, which is pretty much all you can get anywhere, please point me in the right direction. The last time I looked Sveasoft and DD-WRT didn't support versions 5 or 6.Owned by Remi #?

wildblue 7 #11 February 2, 2007 I voted Netgear, just because of personal experience. I've had 2 over the last 4 years... and the only reason it's been two is because I gave my old one to my dad when his Linksys gave it up. Linksys is decent, I've just seen a couple of them fail for no apparent reason. I don't know about D-Link, no one I know is dumb enough to buy one. Oh... wait... sorry Scott. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
bazelos 0 #12 February 2, 2007 Quote DD-WRT Micro. But that's the same version I am running dude! Edit: I had a look at my rooter again, QuoteThere are several different distributions of the DD-WRT firmware. The mini contains all the features of the standard distribution, with the exception of [...] rflow. The micro edition is a stripped down version designed for the WRT54G v5 and other 2MB router models DamnHe who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man. Thanatos340 1 #13 February 2, 2007 QuoteLinksys is decent, I've just seen a couple of them fail for no apparent reason Actually the Linksys 54g SUCKS (especially if rtunning Bittorrent or other Peer2peer applications) and will cause you to have to reset the router often if you do not upgrade the firm ware to DD-WRT or other Firmware. But if you do upgrade, Then you basically have all the power of a $600+ High end Router for less than $100.
Thanatos340 1 #14 February 2, 2007 Yep. No rFlow with Micro. For non techies that dont want to risk bricking thier Router, These guys http://www.tekunixcorp.com/ sell them preflashed and also offer Memory Card expantions that are pertty cool.

JSBIRD 1 #17 February 2, 2007 QuoteLinksys WRT54G, Then soon as you get it home Update the firmware to DD-WRT. Ditto on that exact advice. I'm getting a good connection and signal at over 300 feet, and have to pass through two steel walls on it's way to me and back to the router. 359"Now I've settled down, in a quiet little town, and forgot about everything"
