What would you do?

Recommended Posts

OK, I just got off the phone with the guy at the dealership. This is what he said is wrong.

The power control modulator has an internal malfunction which is why it needs replaced.

Front brakes are just worn.

Rear brakes are worn and the wheel cylinders are leaking.

The front torque access mount is colapsing.

I'm picking it up this afternoon and I'm going to try to take it somewhere to get second opinions on everything. The guy said that when I come to pick it up he'll show me everything that is wrong with it.

Is there anyone out there around Atlanta who is a good mechanic or know someone around north Atlanta that is a good mechanic?

I think you mean to say the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)......I cant say if its needed or not....would need alot more info to give a opinion on that......however I will say that I have seen many a problem misdiagnosed and PCM's replaced needlessly.

As long as there are no caliper problems etc.....a simple front brake job on a 95 Saturn is not expensive...both pads and rotors are quite cheap from a aftermarket store.

How worn are they...did he/she give you a percentage of pad left and general condition of rotors/calipers etc??

OK...here we get a little more serious pertaining to the brake fluid leak...any brake leak is BAD.....That era of saturn is common for leaking wheel cylinders however the severaty(spel) of the leak is what you need to know....are they just "seaping" or are they leaking??

OK I have no freaking idea what your talking about....either you misheard what he/she said....or they are really bad crooks....I'd bet you misheard;)

DO get a second opinion!!!.....get everything written out in detail...scan and post here....I may be able to help :)
I do believe Marks here on dizzy is a automotive tech in the Atlanta area....he is a Nissan dealer tech but should be able to help...if not himself should atleast be able to point you in the proper direction.

95 Saturn SL

I would try to do the stuff myself but the only things I know how to do is put fluids in and change a tire.

Get a Chilton or Haynes manual for the vehicle - it'll cost you $20-$30 and show you how to fix/replace most things that can be done without major machine shop work.

Haynes Repair Manual - $26.95

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped me. I took my car to a different place and was able to get it fixed for only $400. The guy said that the other place was full of shit. I think the problem was that it was a dealership who was trying to "scam the girl from out of town who didn't know anything about cars". Turns out the only problems were my brake pads were shot, my front rotars had cracks and there was a tiny hole in my exhaust (which explains the SES light). So thank you for saving me from buying a new car that I didn't need. I owe you all. :D:D:D:D:D

I'm glad to hear that you've had a happy outcome from this.

I want a 10% commission on what we saved you in repairs... ;)
