rhys 0 #26 December 19, 2006 no that is not the case but with those stats you have less than 0.1% of a chance of having one. you obviously pack well. gonzalesna 0 #27 December 19, 2006 Nice quote... do you play off of social norms as well? Try going into an elevator and face the back instead of the door. (Most people don't notice they face the door.) Or sit right next to someone on a bus when it's practically empty and watch their reaction. (If you're in the states.) Mexico doesn't have the "bubble" we have become accustomed (spelling?) to. Happens all the time in Mexico. In the states, they'll look at you funny or they'll move to get away from your crazy arse. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie. DougH 270 #28 December 19, 2006 QuoteQuoteI did 800 jumps on one and never had anything near a hard opening and only a couple of line twists. By this logic, the fact that I've done over 1100 jumps without a reserve ride means that I'm never going to have one. No of course not!!! But I would wager that over the course of your skydiving career you will probably have less reserve rides than some one who has racked up 20 reserve rides in 1100 jumps."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
AggieDave 6 #29 December 19, 2006 Quoteyou are/were a crossfire man no? have you been spanked by one of them deploying on your belly? Yes I have had spanker openings on a XF2. You're taking 100-400sq ft of canopy with 15-25ft of lines and tossing into the wind at 120+mph. Many things can happen that weren't planned on. Modern canopies tend to have consistent openings that are quite nice; however, you can still get spanked and spanked HARD.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." rhys 0 #30 December 20, 2006 I recieved a PM from somebody that had a hard opening on a crossfire 2 but they said the packer hadpulled the slider back and exposed the nose completely, this will create a spanker on any canopy. as for you dave. you load your shit pretty well so that has to contribute to your ones? aside from these two people I have never heard of hard xfire openings. anyone else??"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
AggieDave 6 #31 December 20, 2006 Quoteyou load your shit pretty well so that has to contribute to your ones? aside from these two people I have never heard of hard xfire openings. I loaded a XF2 at 1.9:1 and another at 2.1:1. The 1.9:1 is the one that gave me the hard openings on occasion. How many hundreds of people load their XF2s that high? I wouldn't discount a rogue hard opening, when the others were great, to wing loadings. I would contribute that to my original point, that any canopy at any time can give you a hard opening.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." georgerussia 0 #32 December 20, 2006 Quote Do not buy brand new gear for your first equipment (unless you have heaps of money) as you will grow out of it quickly. Not necessary, if you get something loaded as 0.9 - 1.0. I still jump my Triathlon 190 I jumped since jump #16 (thanks GravityGirl), and currently I am have no plans to downsize. Well, I was planning to downsize to something like Spectre 170 after 200 jumps, but now I think that it is not a good idea, and now I'm planning to do it after 500 jumps (but not necessary will).* Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
icevideot 0 #33 December 20, 2006 Quoteas for you dave. you load your shit pretty well so that has to contribute to your ones? So are you saying heavy loading makes openings harder? Most canopies I have jumped in the last few years have been loaded between 1.9 and 2.3 . The opening issues I have had have mainly been corrected by new lines. I also have seen too many students get spanked even though their loading is very light. I don't think the loading is an issue here."... this ain't a Nerf world."
