normiss 871 #1 February 7, 2007 Where the fuck did the "deduction maximizer" come into play in the return process???? WTF? They were CHEAP last year...maybe I shouldn't drink while doing taxes...
NWFlyer 2 #2 February 7, 2007 Are you using the online version or the box version? For those of us with no state filing, cost works out about the same (if you get the box version at Costco)... but if you've got to file state (which I don't think you do in FL) you get a rebate or something in the box version. I think it's about the same price as it was last year ... I can't use the basic version, but the "deluxe" version did fine for me, even with home office deductions (the info makes it sound like you have to use the home/business one for that, but that's BS). And at any rate, I'm getting a nice refund. I can deal with it. AND... yet again I think I need to adjust my withholding a bit. I can't seem to get that ideal no refund/no payment tax return that I want."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. skymama 37 #3 February 7, 2007 You're right, no state tax in FL. I bought the $20 version of Turbo Tax and it worked just fine for me.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
normiss 871 #4 February 7, 2007 I'm getting a new container....I mean a nice refund also...but where the hell did they slide in the fees?? I think it's the direct deposit...$30 fee and then the $30 fee for filing... nothing is cheap anymore!
NWFlyer 2 #5 February 7, 2007 Really? I only paid $29.95 total, that included the filing (Federal only) and the direct deposit... And hmmm... a $2,000 refund *would* buy me a lovely container now, wouldn't it? KellyF, you listening? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. sharimcm 0 #7 February 7, 2007 Quote I think it's the direct deposit...$30 fee and then the $30 fee for filing... nothing is cheap anymore! I did my taxes online with TT, and only paid $16.18 for it. The IRS received it and said I should have my money direct deposited in to my account by the 20th. I think somebody was fucking you. Hope you brought the vaseline!! klingeme 1 #9 February 7, 2007 I noticed that too. It cost around $70-$80 to file with Turbo Tax this year, with E-file and Direct Deposit. I think I might try tax-Cut or something else next year. I've been using TT for around 8 years now and it has never cost so much to file and get direct deposit. A few years, you got one free E-file with your purchase. Anyhow, I'm done with TurboTax after having to bend over before hitting the send button this year. Mark Klingelhoefer

I live in an apartment in Texas, don't own a house and I didn't itemize either. IRS is the one who said it would be deposited before the 20th. Hey, two weeks isn't bad. I would have prefered to get it before this weekend, but I can't have everything. chaosreins 0 #12 February 7, 2007 try taxact.com. you'll pay nothing to prepare online and e-file. if you have a simple return, it's the way to go. you can purchase the deluxe version which provides xxtra help/advice, life events guidance, and free phone technical support (plus e-filing) for $9.95. if you want to include a state return, add another $6.00. i've used it for the last 3 years and love it. i own a home and itemize deductions. my daughter used turbotax this year but didn't want to pay the $30+ e-file fee so she re-did the return using taxact.com. put in the same exact information and taxact found her an extra $500 refund! (it had something to do with college tuition credit)
jceman 1 #13 February 7, 2007 QuoteMine was only $15 to file too. You got screwed! You all got screwed! I used TaxAct Online (have for the past three years) and only paid $9.95 for the "deluxe" edition to import last year's return with all the W2 and 1099 data as starting points. Could have even avoided that if I wanted to type in all the crud, but didn't have some of the taxIDs handy. Filed online (no extra fee) and got the refund in 9 days. edit to add: See now that I wasn't the only one to do this (guess that'll teach me to read the entire thread before responding, huh? Naw! Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

(it had something to do with college tuition credit) I didn't pay anything to file... It's just the 'software' they charge... Now, there is an option that you can choose that will charge you approximately $30 if you don't want to use a credit card to pay for the service. I'll get my money soon (but then I'll be sending it off to pay for my washer/dryer). The IRS has the info.
