gonzalesna 1 #1 December 12, 2006 I'm putting together a rig I bought that was short a few imortant parts. I need a main d-bag for a Vector 2 V1-1 and main pilot chute. I'm looking for used items since the military doesn't pay us much. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. AggieDave 6 #2 December 12, 2006 Have you checked the classifieds? Worst case a decent rigger could probably put together a d-bag for you for not that much money that is the right size and design for your rig. Have you checked the price through the company formerly known as Relative Workshop?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." gonzalesna 1 #3 December 12, 2006 I've checked the classifieds and found a few pc's I'm looking at. Trying to get the cheapest good condition items I can find. As far as D-bags go, I bought one but I don't think it's the right size, so I'm trying to buy a different one. I'm waiting to get my main to verify that. I should be getting my main here in a week or so. I haven't checked with Relative Workshop, but I have looked online at a few places. The only online joint I can find a d-bag at is paragear.com. The cheapest bag they've got is $70. It says it's for a wings, but it doesn't seem like there's that much of a difference between the d-bags of each manufacturer. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. AggieDave 6 #4 December 12, 2006 Quoteit doesn't seem like there's that much of a difference between the d-bags of each manufacturer. Overall in the general design there isn't; however, d-bags are sized to the size of the container, not to the size of the canopy. So as a rule of thumb you really should try to use a D-bag that is made for your specific container type and size.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." gonzalesna 1 #5 December 13, 2006 Makes sense, as not all containers fit the exact same sizes (max and min.) So far, I've heard little more than negative comments on CRW risers. Not quite sure why. Seemed like the person's personal preference, because they were badmouthing the big loops on the front risers. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. If not, is the extra bulk, extra price and extra complications worth the hassle?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." riggerrob 643 #7 December 13, 2006 CRW risers are so bulky that normal riser covers won't close over them. The ugliest rigs - on most DZs - are for CRW. Too bad CRW jumpers are too cheap to pay for specialized CRW rigs made by: Jump Shack, Rigging Innovations, Velocity, etc.
gonzalesna 1 #8 December 13, 2006 QuoteAre you going to be doing a lot of CRW? If not, is the extra bulk, extra price and extra complications worth the hassle? Not right now, but they're used risers for $30, so the extra price part doesn't come into play. What kind of complications? By the sound of it, I'm already veering far from this decision. Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. AggieDave 6 #9 December 14, 2006 QuoteNot right now, but they're used risers for $30 Used risers? Used? One of the worst things you can buy used! Risers are hard-wear items and are relatively inexpensive items on a rig. There the sort of thing that really should be bought new. Dive loops ripped, stressed, stretched and torn. Toggles torn up and dirty. Toggle keepers with worn out velcro or worn out fabric (for the keepers). Riser matrial damaged and worn from jumps and friction from the slider. Three ring assembly becoming stretched, pulled, worn and weakened from use. Three rings becoming worn, pitted and loosing their plating...etc. You can buy a new set of generic risers for $50 and a shiney whiz-bang set from a manufacture with all the "options" for around $100. Why buy someone else's second hand worn out gear in this case? QuoteWhat kind of complications? Extra loops/toggles for pully assistance with line groups. Oversized dive loops/toggles that don't fit in your rig. Bocks wrapped with vet wrap that don't fit in your rig...etc. If you're a CRW jumper and use that gear, GREAT, if not, why the bother? If you still want that stuff, GREAT, but why used?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
gonzalesna 1 #10 December 14, 2006 Well, that pretty much makes up my mind on new risers!!!Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.
