Waking computer up

When my computer is on standby how am i kmeant to wake it up? I can't seem to find a way. I have an optical mouse and keyboard. Would appreciate any help.

When I had mine set up that way, just moving the mouse would wake it up, I think.

Then my trusted computer repairman told me that it is more likely to result in a corrupted file with that might mean a really bad crash. He suggested using hibernate instead of standby, as it isn't so vulnerable.

Perhaps the more knowledgeable will confirm and tell us why.

Your mouse should do it other wise turn off stand by and shut it down instead
