DougH 270 #1 December 7, 2006 The thread about colors, and all the talk about easy to locate pilot chutes in the event of bag lock made me think... Why isn't there a system on the market that uses radio signals to locate cutaway mains? I used to build model rockets when I was younger and there was a system that you could purchase for your rockets. It was pretty simple... transmitter that beeped over a radio signal, and a directional receiver with head phones. Walk toward to beeping, if it gets stronger your getting hot, if it gets weaker you are getting cold. The unit itself was just slightly larger than a AA battery, and I think it could easily be sewn to the bottom of a d-bag. Any thoughts?"The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

tdog 0 #5 December 7, 2006 QuoteHow much does this cost ? (receiver + transmitter) I tried to look for the price, but didnt find it.. I asked the question via e-mail on Skydive Radio to Bill Booth - and he let the cat out of the bag on the show that the system was going to go to market... At the time, I think the transmitters were $300 and the receiver $700 ish... Concept - DZO buys one receiver - and the $300 is well suited for the tandem and student rigs as they 1) Are more expensive to begin with, 2) Are more likely to be chopped due to tandems in nature - and the fact they get jumped so much... Sport jumpers could use it too, if their DZO or friends chip in for the one receiver.
DougH 270 #6 December 7, 2006 That seems a little pricey, but it is purpose built. A dog tracking system will run you around three hundred dollars on ebay, that is a receiver, and a collar that I am sure can be sewn into a dbag. The big difference that I see is that it would be on all the time, and you would have to keep changing out batteries. (9 volts, get a set of rechargeables for rotating into the system). The range on the dog systems is advertised at around 7 miles, though I doubt you get that with elevation changes in terrain, and trees and stuff."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
leapdog 0 #7 December 8, 2006 I plan to use something like this and build a free fly handle around it. That is If I can find something that is a beacon and not just a recorder. http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/h0001.html Gunnery Sergeant of Marines "I would like it if I were challenged mentally at my job and not feel like I'm mentally challenged." - Co-worker
