Shell666 0 #1 February 18, 2007 ... and it's SO sad. I'm used to him wagging his tail all the time and it certainly tells me what kind of mood he's in (it's not cropped so it's close to a foot long). I think he slipped on the ice on the stairs last night and came down on his tail. He came in the house and his tail was hanging straight down. I tried to check it but he yelped and wouldn't let me look at it. That was about 1am and since he seemed fine and curled up in bed with me, I figured I could wait until today to see what was up. My friend's lab did the same thing a few years ago on the dock at the lake in LP so I figured he might have as well. Same thing this morning but at least he let me look at it. A bit swollen and you can almost see a bruise under the fur (although he's white and has black spots on his skin so it was kind of hard to tell). On my travels today to get groceries, I stopped by the vet to see if it was more than just a bruise. The vet came out to the car and checked him out and said "Yep, sprained it. Not much we can do. Just let him rest and it'll heal itself." I'm glad that's all it is. But it's strange not seeing his tail curl up when he's being "thoughtful" and wagging like CRAZY when he's happy. Can't wait until it's healed and he can smack me with again when I come in the door! 'Shell

Michele 1 #4 February 18, 2007 I had a cat that broke her tail...it was during one of the big aftershocks of the '94 quake. Vet said nothing we can do, but make sure she's pooping. If not, bring her back in. Penny pooped fine, so no followup was needed; and yes, it was strange to see the tail dragging along the ground behind her. Good luck, and I'm sorry to hear your baby is hurtin'. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

I've always called him "Pooper" anyway ... guess that name "sticks" now! I'm sure he'll be fine. But it's kind of sad to see him try and sit down (he LOVES to back into your leg if you're sitting on the chair with your leg crossed in front of you and sit down on your ankle). At least he's used to circling several times before he lays down! 'Shell
Jewels 0 #6 February 18, 2007 Poor dog! There's no dignity with a sprained tail. Give him lots of ear rubs. Hope he gets better in a hurry. I didn't even know dogs COULD sprain their tails.TPM Sister #

turtlespeed 226 #9 February 19, 2007 Awe Shell . . . I hate to mention tis - but it might be broken too. you might want to get an x-ray. Costly yes, but . . .I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

chrismgtis 0 #12 February 20, 2007 Didn't know they could sprain their tails. Then again, I didn't know I could pull my tongue muscle (or whatever muscle is underneath it) until I did and I was in massive pain for a few seconds.Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
