DSE 5 #1 November 26, 2006 Can anyone explain to me why a smaller canopy of same model as a larger canopy would pack 'larger' than the bigger canopy? I've been jumping a 230 Silhouette. Just bought a 210 Silhouette, nearly the same colors with only two cells different than my 230. Same colors means same fabric density, yes? The 210 won't fit in the same container that fits my 230. Any ideas why?
PhreeZone 20 #2 November 26, 2006 Welcome to the oddities of fabric! QuoteSame colors means same fabric density, yes? Only if it was from the same batch. And even then you might see a difference in some spots. I'm not too sure on the Sihouette but some canopies they add more tape to them others, I'm not sure if they could have added more at a smaller size or not but tape is a large bulky item.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Vectracide 0 #3 November 26, 2006 A brand new canopy will pack larger than a jumped in canopy as well. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....
phoenixlpr 0 #4 November 26, 2006 Packing volume is depending on the air humidity too. A canopy stored in dry air packs bigger than other stored in more humid environment. It can be 1 cm difference on the closing loop.

MagicGuy 0 #7 November 27, 2006 I have a Triathlon 160. I just bought a Hornet 135 and I packed it up (not hooked up to my rig yet) but it was the same volume, if not BIGGER than my Triathlon. The fabric is definitely heavier, and I'm switching from a 7 cell to a 9, but I was surprised at how much volume that thing has!
DSE 5 #8 December 15, 2006 Just as an update: I sent the canopy back to PD since there was such a huge discrepancy between another 210 of identical color and time period, and they too, are baffled as to why it packs up so huge. I was told that there have been periods in fabric manufacturing where there is simply a "bulk mystery" and no one knows why particular pieces bulk up the way they do. New 210, even with Dacron lines, fits inside the Talon FS with no challenge at all. In fact, I had to shorten the closing loop.
