everymansaved 0 #1 November 24, 2006 Hey all, my wife's Kill line in her bridle needs to be replaced, as it's shrunken beyond it's useful life. What does everyone think of using vectran for a new one? I only ask because I know it resists shrinkage from heat, unlike spectra, which is normally used. Throughts? ZigZagMarquis 9 #2 November 25, 2006 If the Spectra kill-line on her pilot chute has "shrunk" enough to where it should be replaced... the rest of the pilot chute may be showing wear which could mean its time to be replaced altogether. Look at the point where the the kill-line enters the bridle, inside the d-bag and also look at the apex lines (tape) inside the pilot chute itself. These are two points I've seen wear on kill-line style pilot chutes that have caused me to just repalce mine when it gets to the point where the kill-line itself has worn / shrunk. everymansaved 0 #3 November 25, 2006 Very true, I'll have to check it out. I just remember an issue of skydive radie with Dave DeWolfe and he was talking about replacing them when they shrink. I should go find it and listen to it. Sean LRGod made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.

rhys 0 #6 November 25, 2006 I noticed our new sigmas have vectran for the kill lines now. if you have a well made pilote chute then it should last at least a few kill lines?"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
Tink1717 2 #7 November 25, 2006 Just replace the whole thing. If the kill line has worn that much, it's probably time. You can spen a little money a bunch of times or a little more once.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. PhreeZone 20 #9 November 26, 2006 I disagree, a kill line can be out of trim in 300 jumps, even my old F111 pilot chute had 700 jumps in it. My ZP now is pushing 500 jumps and other then the kill line it doesn't show the slightest bit of wear.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skymedic 0 #10 November 27, 2006 This is one of the benefits of the Wings PC's. henry uses kevlar tapes and lines. they just won't shrink up before the PC wears out. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
AggieDave 6 #11 November 27, 2006 Quote This is one of the benefits of the Wings PC's. henry uses kevlar tapes and lines. they just won't shrink up before the PC wears out. I can attest to that. My PC is worn out, the bridle is tearing apart and the line looks like it could break at any moment. Its never shrunk, though. (Of course this reminds me that I need to call Ankie this week and order a new PC/bridle).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." everymansaved 0 #12 November 27, 2006 This is why I want to use vectran, it doesn't shrink.God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.
