freeflyflunky 0 #1 February 21, 2007 K -- so I'm still living in NZ -- and will be for awhile yet, but am sorta considering catching a flight to Chile and working my way back home through SA and Central America. Anyone out there have experience in this realm? I'd love to exchange some emails with someone whose "been there, done that." Also -- what's the skydiving scene like down there (SO wish I would have asked that question before moving to NZ!!!!) Thanks :) Jenn_______________________________________ Oh, and one more thing...Ninjas ARE way cooler than pirates.
johnsw71 0 #2 February 21, 2007 I used to live in Uruguay, though it was before my rebirth as a skydiver. Cool country, but I wouldn't go out of your way to make it there, unless you are passing through on your way to Brazil. Instead, I'd recommend starting in Santiago, making your way up the west coast, seeing some of the amazing coastal towns in Chile and exploring Peru and Bolivia. There is a LOT of theft, so if you take your rig, I'd pretty much keep it glued to your hand 24/7. Have a blast!!
freeflyflunky 0 #3 February 21, 2007 Yeah...you're probably completely right about the rig. Would there be DZs I could crash at though? Friendly local skydivers to meet and hang out with? When I first moved here -- I was just basically backpacking, hosteling it, etc...I really thought that local DZs would be welcome places to crash/camp whatever on my way down to Queenstown. I was sadly mistaken. Guess I was more wondering if there would be cool local jumpers and the possibility of sleeping on DZ couches ;) I can't help it -- I've been transformed into a dirty, freeloading, sorta girl _______________________________________ Oh, and one more thing...Ninjas ARE way cooler than pirates. johnsw71 0 #4 February 21, 2007 That probably depends on how cute you are. Since I was there before I started skydiving, I can't give you much advice about the vibe at DZs. You might try posting on the Spanish forum here (we do have one, right?)
bob.dino 1 #5 February 21, 2007 You shoulda come to Australia instead. We're used to dirty freeloaders sleeping at the DZ .

SkymonkeyONE 4 #7 February 21, 2007 I have jumped in Honduras, Ecuador, Panama, but made the majority of my SA jumps in Guatemala. Over 100 jumps in the six months I was there. Down in Puerto San Jose and up in Poptun.
