bob.dino 1 #27 February 21, 2007 Any lager brewed in the UK and generally available is shit. The versions brewed in the beer's home country is far superior*. The Kronenbourg brewed in France is delicious. The Stella Artois brewed in Belgium is a tasty drop. The Heineken brewed in the Netherlands is refreshing. The Carlsberg brewed in Denmark is an excellent beer. The UK-brewed versions of all of the above are shit. * Fosters is an exception to this. It's just shit. Andy_Copland 0 #28 February 21, 2007 I hear ya Bob. Especially with chains such as Wetherspoons buying all the beer nearly out of date and selling it cheap. I have been in some real pubs and had a very tasty pint of stella, but im afraid most of the beer thats sold here has put me off what would be really good beers otherwise 1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. bob.dino 1 #35 February 21, 2007 QuoteCambridge Area (Newmarket town to be precise) Damn. I could give you a list of decent pubs in the Central London area, but I've only been to Cambridge once or twice & don't know the area's pubs at all...
Andy_Copland 0 #36 February 21, 2007 Basically if its franchised i stay clear. I stop by one called "The Globe" and its a real ale house. Really nice beer and sports on the TV. I was actually in a "Wetherspoons" the other month, these places specialise in cheap beer, no music allowed, coffee and basically its a big sell out of a pub. A complete franchise. Because they dont have music they have TV's on the wall with weird shapes on... but i was in there watching FREEFLYING. I couldnt fucking believe it... I almost stopped skydiving 1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. Until morale improves, the beatings will continue.
bob.dino 1 #37 February 21, 2007 I know Wetherspoons quite well. Handy for a cheap meal. There's a nice one on Mile End Road in the Whitechapel/Stepney Green area. Still, pretty mediocre beer in most - do they still do the ales of the month? The best of the chains that I recall is are the Hogshead. Or maybe it's just that the couple I've been in in the City kept their beer well.

Are we talking about the same place? I lived there for over three years and I can tell you there's not much of a gay scene there. There is rockclimbing though.
