FlyingJ 0 #4 February 21, 2007 Very cool. I know a guy that spent 20 years or so as an Air Force PJ. One of his favorite stories was of him and one or two other guys jumping onto a Japanese fishing boat out in the middle of the pacific after one of the fisherman caught a swordfish in the gut. They got the guy patched up and then spent a couple days eating sushi and drinking sake while the boat motored to a place where the guys could hop a flight back to the US. The fisherman gifted them some bottles of sake, which they were concerened about getting through customs with, so they put the bottles in their gear bags, and when it came time to search the bags at customs they made an exagerated effort at pulling out canopies still wet from being in the water and making a mess. The clerk got all fussy and sent them on their way!Killing threads since 2004.
iamsam 0 #5 February 21, 2007 didn't know you could still hunt polar bears for sport you won't be able to for much longer seems pretty fuckin stupid to be out in a boat, albeit tethered, without a paddlebut what do I know
DJL 235 #6 February 21, 2007 Quotedidn't know you could still hunt polar bears for sport you won't be able to for much longer seems pretty fuckin stupid to be out in a boat, albeit tethered, without a paddle They're missing something in the explaination. It's not as if he got to the dead seal by pushing on the rope but I'm not surprised he didn't have a paddle for what he was doing. It's just more weight he has to haul and he could probably use something else. Having kayaked through packed ice last night I can tell you that a pole with a hook is much better for propelling yourself through ice than a paddle. Such a device is standard equipment for Inuit hunters looking for seals."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
