Misslmperfect 0 #1 February 21, 2007 alright...i'm driving to new york from texas in a few weeks, and have a route in mind...maps aren't helping me make this possible, but i know it is! from virginia beach, i'd like to go over to newport news, then up along the eastern virginia coast. i'm guessing there are bridges to cross over the little fingers (for lack of a better description) that make up the eastern side of the state. then up through maryland and into pennsylvania, on my way to philly. i'd like to fit delaware in, too if there is anything worth seeing! so....what are the must see stops along that way, and is there an easy, accessible route that will make all of this possible? or am i stuck with back roads?Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison! Miami 0 #2 February 21, 2007 How far along the east coast do you want to travel? If you come up through Newport News you'll be taking I-64 West (and will pass within about 2 miles of my house), which you can take up into Maryland/DC and on to Philly. I've been told a faster way to Philly (which I'll be testing next weekend) is to take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel out of Norfolk and stay on 13 till you run into 95 just south of Philly.Miami
cjsgrlsx3 0 #3 February 21, 2007 Miami is right. It is faster to go on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and in my opinion prettier. (sorry Miami) The only thing is the toll you have to pay on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Something like $10 each way. Make sure you stop and take in the view! Take care. DJL 235 #4 February 21, 2007 If you're going through VA Beach then go to my college roommate's restaurant, Senor Iguana's. Ask for Chris Wise and tell him you're a skydiver friend of mine. Ask him to sing "Jingle Bells" and to put a drink on my tab."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
SARLDO 0 #5 February 21, 2007 As has ben said... to add... if you go from VA Bch to Newport News, you have to come back accross the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (to norfolk/VABCH) or Monitor Merrimack bridge to catch the roue to the Chesepeake Bay bridge tunnel. Either way, having done the trip many, many times, you will save yourself a couple hours by going hwy 13 up the eastern shore vice 95 north. Most road atlas's have a good blow-up of the area and it should be pretty clear."Always do right. Misslmperfect 0 #7 February 21, 2007 newport news isn't a neccessary stop, but va beach is. i just thought going through newport news was the only way to get up to the rest of the virginia coast. looking at google earth and various maps, the best way i can describe where i'm wanting to go is to call the area the 3 'fingers' lol . newport news is on the southern most 'finger', but i want to go up through all 3 along the eastern most part of virginia. then it looks like i can go directly up into the southern tip of maryland, and on over to delaware if i choose. if not, i can go north along the coast of maryland and into pennsylvania. what i DONT see on these maps is a route to make that possible...and i dont see chesepeake bay bridge tunnel, either. where would that take me?Oh Canada, merci pour la livraison! Misslmperfect 0 #9 February 21, 2007 it looks like the chesepeake bay bridge takes me from maryland to delaware...is that right? then what is the tunnel? so confusing lolOh Canada, merci pour la livraison!
Rover7 0 #10 February 21, 2007 the chesepeake bay bridge is a beautiful thing to see, but once you get north of there, there's not much pretty things to see on the way through delaware, and nj. are you looking for city views of philly?
Miami 0 #11 February 22, 2007 I've taken the 64/95 route most of the way up toward Philly a few times (got off after Baltimore to head into upstate NY) and I don't know if I would necessarily call it "pretty", but it's not bad. I'm actually heading up to Philly this weekend and I'm going to take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel/13 because it's supposed to be faster. Which ever way you go if you need a place to crash in the Hampton/Newport News area just pm me and you'll have one.Miami
