skymama 37 #1 February 26, 2007 Has anyone ever done this? I've been looking into swapping my house with someone for a trip to Europe this summer. It makes me a little nervous to just turn my house over to someone, but it would really make this trip a lot more affordable! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
McDuck 0 #2 February 26, 2007 Will your OCD not send you into mental meltdown with the thought that someone might be peeing in your shower, fornicating on your furniture and generally spreading their own personal filth around the place? I'm just sayin'. popsjumper 2 #3 February 26, 2007 I'll swap you a week in the Team Room at The Farm! It's not Europe but it IS a strange world up here. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
Misternatural 0 #4 February 26, 2007 woo hoo, great minds think alike, I was just looking at a site called Home Exchange.com and wondering the same thing, They say its pretty reliable in that with the many exchanges they have sponsored, none have been disastrous. Essentially it's like internet dating, you check them out carefully before making any deals, they even have sample letters and agreements to fill out. Anyone want to ski, snowboard or leaf peep in VT?.....I want to go to Montana (rockies) or surf in Florida.Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. Sweetness 0 #6 February 26, 2007 I'd love to swap ! But I still live with my parents ... that could be kind of a problem ... Good luck with your search, and if you'd visit Belgium: come over to jump ! "Ha ! I laugh at danger and drop ice cubes down the vest of fear ..." skymama 37 #7 February 26, 2007 QuoteBut I still live with my parents ... that could be kind of a problem ... LOL, I can just imagine how that conversation would go. This won't be a jumping trip for me, I'm bringing my kids with me. They don't even want to come to the dz with me in the states. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

Rick 67 #10 February 26, 2007 Eric and Katy from Z-Hills just got back from a trip to Europe on the house swap thingy. They had a great time. A good way to meet locals and cheap way to travel. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!

johnsw71 0 #13 February 26, 2007 Just be clear that if they're going to use your house to sell drugs that you are to received a 20% cut. Seriously, as long as you are going through a reputable agency or it is somebody you know through a connection, I'd just lock away the valuables and not sweat it. Is there somebody staying behind who can "check in" on the houseguests to make sure they are behaving? Now that I have a nice flat in SF, I've thought of doing this myself, so I'd be curious to know how it goes. John
skymama 37 #14 February 26, 2007 QuoteIs there somebody staying behind who can "check in" on the houseguests to make sure they are behaving? Yep, all of my family lives here so that is a plus. I've already thought that I can bring any valuables that I am concerned about over to their houses. It would kill me to come home to find a big Kool-aid stain on my carpet though. Those are the kind of things I worry about! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Rick 67 #15 February 26, 2007 do you really think you would enjoy a vacation while worrying about cool aid stains and wierd things going on in your bedroom????You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!
johnsw71 0 #16 February 27, 2007 Isn't it standard to collect a deposit that is fully returned to them once you (or one of your nearby relatives, etc.) do a check-out before they pack up and leave? The fear of not getting their money back might be enough to keep the kool aid (or other liquids...) off the floor, shower stall, etc. (I was about to post this without any smilicons, but since I think that's illegal, I threw a few in for good measure.)
