Lent.....

what did everyone give up for lent? i give up sweets every year.. which means no chocolate or ice cream... and for all you that know me... thats a BIG BIG deal.. i eat at least 5 chocolate bars a week and at least a half gallon of ice cream a week too, and usually a piece of chocolate cake , so these next few weeks will be hard for me!![:/]

I gave up processed foods (except for dairy products). No sugars, bleached flour products (most breads) etc.

I freaking blew it night before last, and I feel like CRAP. :(:(:(

Joe buys 2 huge pizzas delivered (he gave up alcohol and fast food -pizza doesn't count he says- and Sprouty gave up cookies and brownies). So here they are eating this awesome gourmet pizza and I freaking CAVED. :(>:([:/]

The good thing about that is I made myself sick...I guess after a few days of 'all-natural' all those preservatives and fat didn't work well with my tummy...so maybe I can stick with my promise the rest of this time.

Damn I feel so terrible for doing that!!! >:(>:(>:( It's just 45 freaking days...:(:(:(

We need a Catholic Lent Support Group, I tell you!! :)

I'm a Catholic and every Lent it always takes about two weeks for me to remember not to eat meat on Fridays.

Huh??? When I was growing up it was no meat on any Friday and no meat at all during Lent. Every restaurant in town had fish for the special on Friday. Fortunately we weren't catholic. ;)

Those are hard-core, old-school Catholics. :D

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Fridays during Lent for the hard-core means a complete fast...as Ash Wednesday does (I didn't know this until Ash Wednesday service at church -Father said "Ok, and at 12:01am, we're all going to be eating MUCH food" :D:o:$)

The clergy do the no meat on Fridays throughout the year, if I'm not mistaken. -But I haven't ever asked, "Hey Father, you don't grub on meat on fridays, do ya?"

My sanity. :S

Blues,
Dave

And this is different from the rest of the year how?

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

That's how I learned it too, although it was already quite obsolete in my time.
I believe some Pope or other actually changed it from being a strict rule to simple 'advice'.
The good thing about arbitrary rules is they can also be changed arbitrarily :P :)

Cheers,

Vale

P.S. Lapsed catholic here too.
