Lent.....

Recommended Posts

I was craving a hamburger today but decided to be good. Although, my mom tells me that since I'm pregnant I could have eaten meat. Who knows anymore. I can't keep up with the rules. :S

Well, as you said in your earlier post, I just felt obliged as it is certainly not the biggest sacrifice I could make. I had potato wedges instead and will be having serial in a little bit. Yum!!!!!:)

I'm enjoying a FAT salmon steak right now. B|

Poor Joe...he's driving to Oregon City, and only has some food bars and energy drinks with him. That wouldn't be bad, but he gave up eating out for lent. :|

I told him there's always a grocery store!

same here, the whole watch was just about to order dinner and we remembered two of us were catholic, and on top of that the first place we tried took fish off their menu, so we had to find another place
...
i'm already feeling the catholic guilt bc i forgot to go to ash wednesday service[:/]

what did everyone give up for lent? i give up sweets every year.. which means no chocolate or ice cream... and for all you that know me... thats a BIG BIG deal.. i eat at least 5 chocolate bars a week and at least a half gallon of ice cream a week too, and usually a piece of chocolate cake , so these next few weeks will be hard for me!![:/]

There are a lot of exceptions to the no meat rule such as health and age.

Actually, there's a church ruling from the Middle Ages that goose is not meat at all, but a kind of seaweed that can be eaten on fast days. I am not making this up either, so feel free to cook up a lovely goose for din-din !

I was raised that you should give things up for lent. I find it convenient to give up my New Years resolutions this time of year.:P

ooo... that's a good one... I might have to try that the next time I make a new years resolution...:D

I became quite disillusioned with the Catholic Church in my teen years (for reasons that really don't matter here).

I gave up Lent for Lent for the last number of years.

It's not what you GO WITHOUT for a few weeks that matters. It's how you live your life that matters. Meat or no meat. Sweets or no sweets.

Just my thoughts. Sorry if this goes to SC.

Hey Karen,

I'm a Catholic and every Lent it always takes about two weeks for me to remember not to eat meat on Fridays. All in all, it's not the biggest sacrifice I can make.

Chris

Uhhh....it usually takes me all of lent to remember. ;) Thanks for the reminder...lol.
I don't want to make all the decisions because if I screw up, then I can't blame it on you...

Huh??? When I was growing up it was no meat on any Friday and no meat at all during Lent. Every restaurant in town had fish for the special on Friday. Fortunately we weren't catholic. ;)
