BlueSkiesKel 0 #1 February 26, 2007 Ok, so many of you know I stand a watch, 12 hr night shifts to be exact, and my watch consists of 2 qualified watch officers in charge of the floor (I fill one of these) So, I got off the phone with my boss last nite, and he's like, Kelly, i've decided to permanently GAP you on the watch! (which means I'll be the only qualified watch officer, no partner) which we ONLY do in rare circumstances, when short on folks. So now, basically until July, EVERY time i'm at work, I have to do the job of 2 people!! and he didnt even sound like it was a big deal 5 watch sections, i'm the only one that now only has 1 officer, grrrr, I just think its crap that he wasnt at all concerned about it, taking away my watch partner and not giving me one in return. ACMESkydiver 0 #3 February 26, 2007 You didn't give enough details about your job to answer that question. WHY is it tough with just one person? What kind of watch are you doing? Are you guarding from break-in, or fire? Big difference.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
BlueSkiesKel 0 #4 February 26, 2007 its doing a lot of work on computers, i cant reveal much, but lets just say at least 50% of the time there is at least enough work for 2 people to do work.. on a class computer and an unclass computer.. so now i have to monitor both systems all the time! Without revealing too much, I can say that I did something similar in the army. We always had 2, for security reasons. There wasn't a lot of work...just monitoring and communication. I guess now and then we'd get 2 things at once that had to be done at the same time...but mainly we had 2 people for security (har-har. not like we got anyone out there that was a 'threat' accept soldiers' ex-girlfriends or the wives the girlfriends were competing with. I worked with a few real slobs.) ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

BlueSkiesKel 0 #8 February 26, 2007 QuoteIs there a liability issue for when you take your breaks and no one is there to spell you? this is why i'm mad.. i cant really take breaks since i'll be the only qualified person here.. i'm stuck... usually when there are 2 of us here, we can take a workout break or walk around base for a bit if we are tired.... TrophyHusband 0 #13 February 26, 2007 here's the deal. you may be getting screwed, i don't know. the best thing you can do is suck it up and do the best you can. when handed a pile of shit, you can either bitch and moan, or you can use this as an opportunity to shine. next time you need bullets for your fitrep or eval (i don't know if you're officer or enlisted) you can use this. I spent 6 years in the navy, and if the coast guard is anything similar, you just have to expect that you will get screwed constantly. and just remember, the reward for good work is more work. floridadiver81 0 #14 February 26, 2007 I forget the DOD instruction..but somewhere there is a DOD wide instruction stating that you are REQUIRED a 10 minute break for every 1 man hour of work...no matter what kind of work it is. The only exception to that instruction is when standing an armed watch. I know its there becasue i had to use it at my first command for a similar situation like yours. It may behove you to do some research on it. and my personally...i would go higher than the person give the order and bitch to high heaven. Its not fair that they are only doing it to your watch section. If that doenst work..then go to your EOE person...then surely something will get done about it considering they are singling you out from the other 4 sections!!!"Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!!
