pinkfairy 0 #4 March 4, 2007 What do you like to paint? What are you good at painting? I'm good at drawing birds and horses, so I might go for something like that. The mistake I've made many times when painting, has been to want to challenge myself, and choose a too complex or unfamiliar subject matter. If you do a lot of small things (drawings and so on), then it could be a good thing to do the same type of thing when you do something bigger. Much greater chance of success. Much greater chance of making something you really like. I draw all the time, I draw a lot at work, when I'm on the phone (I do IT support), just to have something to do with my hands, and some of the things I draw there, I later take home and make something bigger from. And artist's block when seeing a canvas isn't uncommon at all. I don't do paintings anymore, I only do digital, as I have much more freedom. I can really "doodle" on a copy of my work to explore, without destroying anything. I can't handle the canvas anymore. I hope this was any help! Have fun, and remember that there are a lot of canvases out there. They're just waiting for you! Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. jimmytavino 16 #6 March 4, 2007 this Past Christmas Morning my kids gave me a "paint by numbers" Artists' set... .... so that is what i am currently painting... it's a landscape with mountains and pine trees I had to go buy a lighted magnifying glass lamp.... with all these springs and arms, and clamps on it so i can pull it down in front of the picture, so as to see where the outlines are..... The intricate detail on this thing is amazing..... the brush i am using is tiny tiny tiny.... It's slow going, but is going well.. Been working on it for about 2 weeks now.. It's fun...Those who think " Paint by Numbers " is simple, must Never have tried it.... Oh i also just finished painting one of the bedrooms upstairs..... not much of a REAL artist when it comes to creative painting, but I DO appreciate such works.. have fun,,, stick with it.... jmy Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
