Grips 0 #1 March 4, 2007 So, here it is a little after midnight just lazing around. We kept hearing sirens, several, and very close together. Didn't really think to much of it until one came zooming down our street. WTF? Went outside to see what was going on and confronted this: (see pics). The sun is going to come up in about 3 hours. Today is forecasted to be 39 degrees (C) with 20 knot easterlies (bad). There was a point where I was pretty sure we were gonna have to evacuate. It was pretty intense standing so close to these huge 30-40 foot flames. Huge embers were everywhere, starting other small fires. Lots of houses near by. We're not totally in the clear yet, I keep peeking outside, but its slowly creepin up on us...Shocked Should probably be ok though.
sharimcm 0 #2 March 4, 2007 Wow... Good luck! On a lighter note, I really like the 4th pic. It's awesome. FlyingJ 0 #3 March 4, 2007 Pretty amazing, isn't it. I hope all goes well for you and your neighbors. I know a number of folks from the US that were dispatched down to Austrailia for the fire season and I've heard about some pretty intense fire activity. Activity is starting to pick up in the southeast US and my crew goes on the availability list to get on some fires in the near future. It's always a tough line between hoping the fire season is light for the sake of the homeowners, etc., and hoping for an active season for me. It sure does make for more fun (and more overtime!!!) when things are really cookin'. jason.Killing threads since 2004.
Squeak 17 #4 March 5, 2007 We have some of the BEST Bush Fire (Forrest), unfortunately people insist on living on the edges of national parks then complain when Bush fire season starts. And it is like a season EVERY year we have fires, some years worse than others. You have not seem power until you see a Eucalyptus tree EXPLODE from intense heat. Where you at Grips?? Squeak. We're in North Beach. I have a lot of pictures, and will put more up. I've been at the beach all day today (its fAcking hot!), there still whirly birds buzzing by, and keeping an eye on things. As of right now, I think its flared up again, lots of chopper buzzing by. Damn, arsonists. They should burn! (no pun intended). There is a 50 G reward out for these cowards.

Squeak 17 #23 March 6, 2007 QuoteSqueaky...are you HOPING the fire is going to come your way? Quit looking for trouble! No Nina not hoping it comes my way. But Bush fires are regualr as clockwork here. Take appropriate precautions, and keep an eye on the weather and winds, and if needs be evacuate (rarely needed). But I dont worry about them until I need to worry, even then I dont worry much, I'm fully insured, all I need is the animals and my wife (not in that order ) the rest will be ok eventuallyYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS!
