Do you know your LDL/HDL levels?

Recommended Posts

My total cholesterol a couple months ago was 129...I forget my exact LDL/HDL count but they were both normal.

edit - I was thinking about you today...one of my patients today came in for an echo to check for pericarditis.

What is so weird is that my cholesterol levels being so good/normal and I'm having a heart condition:S. I suppose this is a heads up that I need to make life changes and take better care of myself. I thought I did..I eat well/healthy..I watch the red meat and fat intake..limit the carbs and sugar...and damn..looky lu...I have an inflammation of the outer layer of my heart that has reduced my ability to continue to skydive(climb to alti and pressure changes along with my meds as well as the adrenalin rush and how it affects my already rapid heartbeat)....for now. I hope that this Friday the Cardiologist gives me clearance to jump again...if not, then I'll just deal with it accordingly.

don't know, don't care to be honest. It's one of those things that I'll deal with when I get old. Whilst I'm young, I'm going to eat whatever I want, and just exercise enough to make it irrelevant in terms of caloric intake :D

Well....do you?

Even after my recent pericarditis condition, they did blood draws and called this morning with my LDL at 100 and HDL at 84.

It's good to stay on top of your cholesterol levels.

Yes I do...but after eating the heart attack on a plate this morning...I'm not so sure I want them checked again anytime soon...I really do hate fast food...[:/]...

Yep, just got screened for the :D time recently.

LDL 106
HDL 69

Works for me, and that was after a year of unhealthy eating.

Just so yo know Steve, calorific intake and cholesterol have very little to do with eachg other, you can be lean and trim and still have a High CL, there are two type of cholesterol as Rocky mentioned LDL and HDL (low and High density Lipids aka Fats)
LDLs are the bad ones

Oh, I know. I'm just more worried about the size of my belly than cholesterol, for right now at least :D

yep -

hdl is 21
ldl is 58

doc almost fainted...hehehe

vegetarian has it's benefits B|

vegetarian or not...those numbers aren't realistic..really. If you avoid "meat" and eat nothing but eggs and raw veggies...it doesn't make sense. If you're eating just a bag of lettuce each day for 3 meals a day, it isn't healthy since you aren't getting any protein to keep your energy up...and necessary nutrition where it needs to be.:S

Nope. Sure don't. It's been years since I gave blood or had a physical. Back then, the numbers were in excellent order.

I don't know my HDL/LDL numbers, but my cholesterol was in the 140's a few months back (doc says that's really good).

Doc was happy with the overall level, impressed that my LDL was as low as it was. He also talked to me about a low HDL level, said that I need more veggies and exercise.
