Ibuprofen question for the docs

Recommended Posts

I know taking too much of this can cause hives, which I got taking it after I got my wisdom teeth removed. I have taken Ibuprofen many times prior with out having any reaction. I just think it was because I took more and for longer than I ever have before. So should I stay away from it now, or would it be okay to take it again, just not that much? I have used it once after with no problems. Would I be more likely to get hives again from it?

(edited for clarification)

Not a doctor but, may I humbly suggest that you read the label?

Doesn't answer my question.;)

It only says may cause hives and not to use if you have an allergic reaction to other medicines. I'm not allergic to it. Actually took it once after with no problems. Just wondering if it increases my chances of hives from heavy usage of it.

For my body weight, I know that 2400mg daily is ok (it's what I switched to immediately instead of vicoden, post surgery, because it made me sick).

Reread your own post. I think it answers your question.
I like to stay away from OTC's and pharmaceuticals.
They only decrease your tolerance/increase your sensitivity.
In the end aspirin does give you the best bang for your buck with minimum side effects.

Stay away from it.

Hives is most likely a sign of an allergic reaction (Type 1 hypersensitivity reaction) Just because you had hives the last time, doesn't mean the next time wont be more severe.

She's a doctor I would listen to her. Keep taking it though but get a script for an epi pen
