ZigZagMarquis 9 #1 November 7, 2006 Does anyone out there in the rigging verse have any experience with these types of sewing machines sold by Harbor Freight? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=3914 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=92966 It looks like its Chicago Electirc Power Tools that markets them... although I'd bet they're made in China. Anyway, they appear to be economical and I've been tempted to buy one, but I wonder if they're junk or not?
AggieDave 6 #2 November 7, 2006 I have some experience with the "Chicago Electric Power Tools" brand name. Quite a bit of the products are Chinese reproductions of quality products from name brand manufactures. Some are actually rebranded versions/seconds from name brand manufactures. You do get what you pay for, though. Basically the tools I have from them are tools I don't use that often. I've gone through 4 4 1/2" grinders from them, though. They're cheap enough it doesn't bother me, though. Basically it comes down to if its not something you use that often, then you'll probably be happy with the cost savings. Like the MIG welder I have from them. It does what I need it to do when I use it. I don't use it all that often and I'm typically not welding anything that requires a high duty cycle or a lot of power, so I'm pretty happy with what I've got. Harbor Freight does not pay return shipping/freight, so if you have one in a town near you, it might be worth it. Buy the replacement plan, then it doesn't matter when it craps out. If you have to mail order it, I'd say its pretty much not worth your time or money. Just in my experience with Harbor Freight and their Chicago Electric products.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." councilman24 37 #3 November 7, 2006 These look like the same as the gamsy in the othe thread. " I wouldn't waste my money but I have no experience with them. When the "legitimate" clones are $500 or $1000 what make you think these are anything but junk?I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
