IanHarrop 43 #3 March 13, 2007 QuoteAnd how do they know this, gave them english as a 2nd language courses & forced them to take the "pepsi challenge"? According to the article.... Whether as a result of this dietary choice or the cause of it, all cats—lions, tigers and British longhairs, oh my—lack 247 base pairs of the amino acids that make up the DNA of the Tas1r2 gene. As a result, it does not code for the proper protein, it does not merit the name gene (only pseudogene), and it does not permit cats to taste sweets"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
tigra 0 #4 March 13, 2007 I've read this before, however I do have a cat with a sweet tooth. He loves cake and cookies, and he'll beg and climb all over me when I've got a piece of cake or a sweet roll. I always need to share just a little bit or I can't eat in peace! He's even licked the jelly off a piece of toast! None of my other cats care about sweets. Every cat I've ever had liked ice cream, but that's mainly because of the dairy. Maybe its just an an excuse for him to climb all over you and then he gets distracted when you give him food. Sounds like some human males I know.... When will I know enough? When we're snacking we're polite and offer my cat a taste so he doesn't feel left out, even when it's something he's not going to eat. We thought this would be the case with powdered sugar donuts although he dove right in like it was a piece of fish. Black cats eating white sugar donuts are funny. But you can't laugh at him. Willard does not like that.

Well the cats may actually enjoy what the sugars do to the food on a different level. It may not be what we call sweet but does not mean that the cats dont enjoy it more because of the sugarsYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! Keith 0 #11 March 14, 2007 That may be true but my cat LOVES peanuts. Just tonight while I was making his dinner, he got into my peanut stash on the end table and macked-out. However, being the giver he is, he coughed them back up on my carpet with a big hairball about 15 minutes ago. Keith Don't Fuck with me Keith - J.
