Snowwhite 0 #27 March 14, 2007 Ok, I'm going live oak. Here's why. They are likely to live 300 years or longer. They add stability to the landscape ( they actually are one of the trees that will grow to larger than the height of a house, which is sadly lacking in our southern states now. And helps cut down on the density of winds.) They are a hardwood, which in future years (like when your great grandchildren are around) will make fine furniture and drumsticks, and fire wood. They will oxygenate the atmosphere at a higher rate than the other trees. One fully grown live oak will probably out oxygenate 30 of the others fully grown. They won't leave the crud all over the yard that the magnolia will. The Spanish moss will find its' way to your tree by itself. And people who are only looking for quick and pretty will plant the other trees which will all need replacing in a couple of decades, instead of a couple of centuries.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com

normiss 898 #31 March 14, 2007 I am in total disbelief...I agree with Stitch Sego Palm...this IS Florida! http://junglemusic.net/cycadadvice/cycads-sago-palm.htm A cluster of three...."shrubbery!"
skymama 37 #32 March 14, 2007 QuoteSego Palm...this IS Florida! If a Palm was on the free list, I would have listed a Palm right after the Avacado tree! I swear, you people don't read. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
normiss 898 #33 March 14, 2007 I read...YOU don't listen! If you get the magnolia, Nick will have fun destroying your lawn mower from mowing over the seed pods (pretend hand grenades). You should see those things launch from under the mower...the neighbors will love the projectile mowing from the kid with three knees.... Cypress trees rock too...and you're in a good area for that...but the oak has the most character. I still prefer sego palms...tell the city to buy sego palms. Cheap bastards.
