masterrig 1 #2 November 4, 2006 Quotesoon I will buy my first new rig, but I dont know which material to chose. Cordura or parapack, what are cons and pros. which one is better. ________________________________________ To me, Nylon Cordura material, is the way to go. It is easy to clean and maintain and a bit more appealing to the eye. Para-pack, is shiny, smoothe 'finish'. Shows scratches more readily than Cordura. Para-pack, is easy to clean. Though, both, are very similar in tensile strength, Cordura, has a 'classier' look. Para-pack, seems to 'fade' in color from sun-light sooner than Cordura. I would suggest, getting some samples from a rigger at your DZ and compare the two. Visit with your rigger and experienced jumpers and gather all the information you can. matthewcline 0 #3 November 4, 2006 There is a thread on it some where. I own one of each. My Parapack rig looked better in the begining than the Cordura. Now 3 years later the Cordura looks better. Cordura is a bit tougher and hides the "oops maybe it will buff out" mistakes better. Since your young to the sport I would stay with Cordura, heck I am not considered young and will go back to and then stick with Cordura. If the Rig wears better (or at least lookes like it) it will resell better. I only now see a reason to have Parapack as a "Team" look or for a "special" rig (for an event or sponsor deal maybe). Just my 2 Cents.,An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
skydiverek 63 #4 November 4, 2006 Parapack for body contact areas (back pad and inside of leg straps), cordura for everything else.
peckerhead 0 #5 November 4, 2006 I would vote for cordura. I have had both over the years and the parapack rigs ugly-out much faster. A cordura rig will look new for a long time if you take care of it, keep it out of the sun, store in a gear bag, etc. Parapack is OK for the backpad for comfort and that part of the rig does'nt show and is not exposed to sunlight, scuffs, etc. I would not recomend parapack for the legstraps because it is slick and will shift and slide around much easier. Cordura tends to stay in place better.
riggerrob 643 #6 November 4, 2006 500 denier Cordura for sport rigs and 1000 denier Cordura for student, rental, tandem and other school rigs. ... because 1000 denier lasts longer when dragged across asphalt, etc.
JerryBaumchen 1,450 #7 November 4, 2006 Hi Rob, It seems this questions comes along every couple of months or so. To the OP) If you get a Vector or Infinity, it will be 500 denier Cordura (unless you want a color that only comes in 1000 denier & then they will only use very little of it, probably just in the stripes). All other USA rigs (I think) come in 1000 denier Cordura. Contact the mfr of the rig(s) you are interested in and have them send some samples. woodpecker 0 #8 November 6, 2006 I have a rig in both. My 0.2 get cardura if its your first rig (doesnt show the beating as easily), get the parapack if you want a shiny, new looking rig always (if not dropped, dragged, etc).....SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?
