Must be the old "helpless girl needs a man" kind of thing or something. Reminds me of the Farside cartoon of the dog calling the dial-a-cat chat line and the housewife cat on the phone saying "I'm a big fluffy Siamese and I'm up on the porch and my leg's in a cast and I can't run away . . ." and the dog's all enraptured.
