Anyone here fish?

Recommended Posts

I used to fish when I was a kid. We caught a lot of crappie. Don't fish too much anymore. We have a salmon run right behind our back yard too. Sad! I should go fishing maybe sometime.

This thread reminds me of the time John was at work and he had a coworker tell him: "I feel sorry for your kids John!" He said "They think skydiving is normal!"

John's retort: "I feel sorry for your kids! They think fishing is exciting!"

I tend to go after a bit larger game....

Halibut off the coast of WA... usually run at least 25 to 75 pounds... some are bigger... my biggest is 125 pounds off the Oregon Coast. These fish are BIG.. powerfull and in about 650 ft of water... very tough fishing.

Fall chinook at the Columbia River.. small ones are 25 pounds and my biggest is 52 pounds....

Spring on the Columbia sees the BIG sturgeon come in following the smelt and the shad runs...You can only keep the ones that are 42" to 60"... all the really big ones are the spawning females according to the ODFW and I have caught them up to 12 ft... I did hook into on a few yhears ago that was going back to sea.. and have no idea how big she was.. she spooled the Penn 6/0 that had about 1000 yards of 150 pound spectra line on it.... just could not stop her or turn her.. and the anchor was hung in some pretty good current on the ebb tide so we could not run her down.. then again she was heading towards Clatsop Spit and that is NO place to take a boat on an ebb tide.

I used to be a Fly Fishing instructor.
Trout were my favorite, Bass were fun, Bluegill protecting their beds were a blast(they're not feeding, they're attacking anything that gets close.)
Salmon/Steelhead when I could travel. Never fished for Tarpon, but that's supposed to be the ultimate on a Fly Rod.
I miss it, but not really enough to take any energy away from skydiving right now.
