BillyVance 35 #1 March 26, 2007 Here's the next installment of the ongoing kitchen/dining renovations. I'm still in the demolition phase of the floor and cabinets. However, I did knock out the big window and fill it in with new studs and plywood. Now the motherfucker part... As soon as I disconnected and took out the stove/oven, and ripped out the cabinet wing around it, exposing the subfloor underneath, my heart started to sink. I then started ripping up the floor in the kitchen. My worst fears confirmed... MOTHERFUCKER!!! Water damage!!! Just about the whole damn kitchen subfloor has had water damage ever since we bought the house. The previous owner did a great job covering it up and it escaped detection by the house inspection. Oh well, not anything I can do about that. All this does is add another step in the renovations. Everything down to the subfloor were coming out anyway. I will just have to replace about 7 or 8 sheets of subfloor. Not all that much more work, as long as the floor joists are in acceptable shape. But I won't get my hopes up in that regard. The new cabinets arrive in 10 days, but it will still be another 2 weeks before the installer can get here to install them, so I have enough time to get this repaired, and then the new floor installed, and finally the cabinets. I should have been wearing work gloves. While stripping the plywood off the floor, I got a huge shard of wood jammed into my thumb between the top of the nail and the skin it grows out of. It went about 1/4" in... Motherfucker!!! Anyway, here are some pics... the first one was previously posted. It's the back wall of the kitchen in the breakfast nook with the window in the middle. Second picture is the same wall, with the open hole where the window was, with studs installed. Third picture is the same wall, looking in from the patio. Fourth picture is the same wall, from inside, with the plywood added, and another layer on the outside. I will be adding strips of those 2" thick insulation boards in between the studs, then drywall over the hole with a basic patch job. Fuck the wall paper. That wall will be 100% covered with new cabinets and backsplash. More pics coming in the next post... motherfucker... BillyVance 35 #2 March 26, 2007 In the first pic, you'll see wires coming out of the floor, that's where the stove/oven was. See the dark area of the subfloor? Motherfucker... In the second picture, the subfloor has mostly been exposed. You can see an arcing line with dark in the middle and light on the outside. The previous owner cut out the outside and filled it in to hide the old damage, just as a short-cut, but obviously they didn't fix the leak. Third pic, same area from another angle. Fourth pic, the area closer to the door to the garage. Last pic is just the same floor after I cleaned up most of the debris. I've since covered it up with a tarp to keep the smell to a minimum. I've got a guy coming out tomorrow to take a look at it, and hopefully we'll get started this week on getting this mess fixed. More money down the drain, but oh well... Let that be a warning to anyone considering a kitchen overhaul or complete rebuild... After the new subfloor is in, then 1/2" durock boards go on top of that, followed by ceramic tile. When the whole floor is done, there will be NOTHING coming up through the floor. Armour666 0 #13 March 26, 2007 ahh fuck you both I'll have to find the pictuers of the reno from the first house I owned , both water and elctricle problems fucker conected copper to the knob and tube and then stufed the shit back in the walls so it would appeare rewired and did the same shit at the outlest. Then to top it off the floor hade a bit of a slope to it so when I went to tear up the floor to work on that I found the ass hole had carpet under it and had cut 2x4 wedges at one side of the room on edge to down to nothing on the other. Under the carpet there was 3 layers of flloring , Floor tiles and lonolium. Dame people that do shit them selves that dont have a clue .SO this one time at band camp..... One inside the house in the laundry closet, and another outside near the power meter. Some of the breakers on that one covers many of the same power ends as the one in the laundry closet. I don't know what the fuck that was all about either, but the panel in the house didn't have a breaker for the stove/oven. The outside one did. If I could find a way... I'd just burn the fucker down and rebuild. BillyVance 35 #25 March 26, 2007 I finally got the rest of the cabinets plus the sink out of the way. I am royally fucked... I also decided it was best to remove the bottom layer of drywall on the walls around the kitchen where the soaked subfloor and drywall meet. More work and more money down the drain. Note that in the pictures, I'm not done removing the drywall. That will be done later this afternoon. I have to do all this while at the same time caring for and feeding my little girl, which necessitates changing into clean clothes each time I have to do something for her. Motherfucker!!!!
