NWFlyer 2 #1 March 27, 2007 I'm in the process of moving personal stuff over from the work laptop I have to give back to the new laptop I bought for home. I've figured out how to import my bookmarks, but I can't figure out if there's a way to import the options/settings that I have on Firefox. Is this even possible? I've got about a gazillion passwords/user IDs/etc. that I don't want to have to manually recreate."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Slappie 9 #2 March 27, 2007 I know it doesn't help you, but I'm Slap, I never help anyone QuoteI've got about a gazillion How much is a gazillion, exactly? Lessee.. there is a Million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion, sextillion, septillion, octillion, novillion, decillion . . . lessee, a decillion is: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 . . . so there ain't no gazillion, it's right up there with zillion, bijillion, and uncountabillion . . . a made-up term. Just so you know, here's the list of "named illions": Billion has 9 zeros Trillion has 12 zeros Quadrillion has 15 zeros Quintillion has 18 zeros Sextillion has 21 zeros Septillion has 24 zeros Octillion has 27 zeros Nonillion has 30 zeros Decillion has 33 zeros Undecillion has 36 zeros Duodecillion has 39 zeros Tredecillion has 42 zeros Quattuordecillion has 45 zeros Quindecillion has 48 zeros Sexdecillion has 51 zeros Septendecillion has 54 zeros Octodecillion has 57 zeros Novemdecillion has 60 zeros Vigintillion has 63 zeros Googol has 100 zeros. Centillion has 303 zeros (except in Britain, where it has 600 zeros) Googolplex has a googol of zeros "In the English speaking world, at least, there's already disagreement about what the word "billion" means. In the United States, it means 109; in Great Britain, it means 1012. The Brits add 6 zeroes per step up, and we add 3. So a British "trillion" is 1018. In a sense, the British system makes more sense--billion, trillion, quadrillion, etc., indicate 2, 3, and 4 from the roots of the names. If you think of them as meaning 2, 3, and 4 groups of 6 zeroes, everything makes good sense--and it makes no sense in the U.S. system." Our number billion, I might add, is known in Britain as a "milliard." The Germans, who evidently follow British practice, take it a step farther and use die Billiarde, which is the equivalent of quadrillion in the U.S. OK. So, can anybody lend me two bucks for lunch? jerm 0 #3 March 27, 2007 copy over your whole darn firefox folder from application data most everything should be there Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
NWFlyer 2 #4 March 27, 2007 If it had only been a bijillion I would do it manually. But since it was a whole gazillion... And jerm, thanks for the *useful* info."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. jerm 0 #6 March 27, 2007 it makes sense if you start from the right place. think of it in terms of wooly scientific notation: 1000 * 1000^n n=1 milliion (some otomatopedic relationsip to mono..1) n=2 billion bi=2 n=3 trillion tri=3 n=4 quadrillion quad=4, etc.. it's the number of addition sets of zeros after an ititial thousand. now.. everywhere else, cent=100... so why is centillion what it is? cause googol was taken? now.. where the hell they came up with the idea i have no clue.
