Break from Boogies

Recommended Posts

There are just too many people at boogies;
Too many who are so excited to be there that there head isn't there;
Too many who act as if it's a vacation and they can misbehave and it's okay;
Too many who fly like shit and think it's okay...we luv ya anyway..until you take yourself or another out...dammit...

I'm taking a break from big boogies until I see some serious changes in the sport...for whatever reason that WFFC took the hiatus...it's a good time for all of us to take a step back and really evaluate what will make this sport more safe...and reduce the incidents that have happened this month...I know that none of us want to be part of those incidents..and we all have a part in making sure we aren't part of that scenario.

Easy solution.

Go to big boogies outside of the States:P

You will find more rules in places outside the states. That is all you guys are lacking. rules.

However, that is what makes the states so much fun to jump.
I have had the greatest times jumping in the states.
The downside of it is i had never seen an accident in over 5 years. Everytime i went to the states i saw a death or very serious injury.
Just takes some rules to be put in place. Sure in the states you have more full on jumping and pros than most countries... I hope for your guys sake that you find a way to get more control over eveything.

In the meantime, i love that i will be spending summer in oz and then summer in the states going to boogies.

American boogies are the most fun i have ever had in my life... also a place though where i feel the most nervous jumping though.

Dammit! Did I miss the memo? Every time I click on a link in the Bonfire today thinking it's about Boobies, it turns out to be about Boogies.>:(

I miss the old days, when Boogies were discussed in General Skydiving Discussions, and the Bonfire was for "non-skydiving related discussions". As opposed to these days when moderators move Boogie discussion from General Skydiving Discussions to the Bonfire.

I haven't been to a boogie yet, and as much as I'd like to hit a couple this year I'm not planning on attending any. Hopefully things will sort themselves out soon, we're losing way too many people lately...

Miss ya Katie

It seems pretty common. I know I did the same as pretty much anyone else....start off in the sport, go to a bunch of boogies, meet tons of people, have a blast, etc. The thrill of that fades, though. So, I replaced boogies with skills camps. Skills camps are just as much fun (probably more), you still get to meet lots of people, everyone is there to learn, and (it's in the name of it afterall) you actually learn some skills! :)
I'm really glad I went to the boogies that I went to. I definitely had some great experiences. (And I would still really love to hit LP one of these years....) But, my boogie time passed awhile ago....and I haven't really missed it much since.

It's a weird place to be...some of my upjumper friends have asked me if the reward was worth the risk.....and others have asked if I crave it anymore...I seriously can't answer that one...I'm happy on the ground editing videos...and perhaps someday doing CRW or freeflying again...for today, it's an answer I can't answer.....live with it...I am....:S

You could always just come to the LP Boogie and hang out at the lake.. do some hiking.. party with us nightly at the bar( a real honest to god MONTANA bar) Bring the main squeeze with you...lots to do.. :D

Jeannie is lying. There is nothing to do besides jump. The weather's terrible, the skydive's suck, the beer is warm, and there are too many damn Canadians. :|

I've never figured out what the attraction is for getting shitfaced and acting like an idiot , anyway.

After a couple of beers I've got a buzz on and know that I'll be able to wake up in the morning, ready to go.

I'm reminded of a recent boogie where a particular jumper got up, obviously still intoxicated, manifested for the helicopter jump, didn't show up for the briefing, and finally came running out one minute before lift off, putting his rig on, and had no clue about the proper procedures.

You're having the personal crisis with the sport that all jumpers have at one time or another, and some of us have it repeatedly. You're not the first or the last person to feel this way, it has ever been thus and always will be. Some people resovle it, some people hang it up, some just take a break that can go on for many years. Few people stay in the sport for even ten years, it takes its toll.

You have to do what you think will make you happy in your life, whichever way that takes you.

Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Why would you even WANT to read a thread about taking a break from Boobies?:|

Miss you too K except if you were referring to this Steve [me] when you speak of Colorado, well I'm not there anymore. :( I'm up in Calgary Alberta tending to 9 years of renters abuse on my house here (with ambitious top-to-bottom reno plans). Alberta has a lot in common with Colorado, but I will say that IMHO Colorado is better mainly because it has better weather and better jumping opportunities. But western Canada is a beautiful place that people should visit if they've never been there.

Speaking of boogies ...

Not surprisingly last summer in BC I attended two local boogies where Otters were brought in and people from all over BC and Alberta (and even some WA State peeps) got together for the fun. This is predictable, but when you get a group of people who are only used to jumping out of small airplanes, it’s not surprising for chaos to erupt under canopy when all of a sudden 22 other canopies share the sky with them. Fortunately nothing bad happened (except for the inevitable alcohol abuse at night), but boogies are a time for people to slow down instead of rush into all of those cool, fun zoo’ish style jumps.

Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

What she said.

For me the best part of going to boogies is seeing friends and meeting new ones, not jumping. Best way to avoid landing area chaos is to not be in the landing area! ;)

I think LP is a great boogie to go to if you aren't into jumping so much right now. There's lots of non-jumping stuff to do - so much that many folks who do like to jump a lot at boogies take a day or two to go do other things.

If you get talked into.... err I mean decide to come, bring your backpacking gear; Glacier Nat'l Park is a short drive from the dz. B|

Glacier SUCKS - there was only a like 20 or thirty mountain sheep last year and only like 20 square miles of glacier that was visible - and the falls - they were all warm and stuff if you jot in them. . . :P
