mark 107 #1 October 15, 2006 I have a set of grommet dies for hand (hammer) setting. but am thinking about getting a foot- or hand-operated press, especially for setting #0 SS. I've used a foot operated one. New ones go for more than $2000. I can't justify that, so where would I find a used one in good condition? Hand presses are considerably cheaper: new, just over $100, plus dies. The bench-mounted hand presses seem very light, though. Anybody got experience with them? Also, what's the difference between Stimpson grommets and ClipsShop grommets? Mark
slotperfect 7 #2 October 15, 2006 T and T Liquidators is just down the road from me in Lumberton, NC. He buys out factories and mills that are closing. A foot operated grommet press might just be among his cache of goodies.Arrive Safely John

Mark I looked into foot presses for "0" S/S spur grommets and found that they were inadaquate for propper setting. the only way to ensure propper setting with a non manual type of press (hand set and hammer) is hydraluic or pheumnatic, both very expensive. The main problem/ advantage with S/S is it's hardness, the only way (other than hand setting ) to ensure consistant reliable performance is; with the afore mentioned products and they would have to be custom built for the individual hence the expense. riggerrob 643 #4 October 16, 2006 Yes, the foot-operated grommet presses - that we used at Rigging Innovations - were custom-built by a machinist friend of Sandy's. They were expensive and had to be repaired every couple of years.
