Twoply 0 #1 April 6, 2007 My aiwa stereo in my workshop gets terrible reception even though it's in a wide open space. The station comes in fine everywhere else and it was working fine when I had it in the house. The factory antenna is still attached but looks pretty weak. Do they make a booster to help with reception? I hate listening to static. Thanks
jjiimmyyt 0 #2 April 6, 2007 billvon could probably answer this better but is there any large electrical motors around? Also does the signal get better if you hold onto the anntena , if so add a length of wire, thta might help. Or get a CD player. "This isn't an iron lung, people. quade 4 #3 April 6, 2007 Are you trying to listen to AM or FM?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Twoply 0 #4 April 6, 2007 Fm. The signal doesnt get any better if I move the antenna wire around. Isn't there just some kind of booster taht you can plug in to increase it's reception?
quade 4 #5 April 6, 2007 As I had suspected. It's entirely possible that you -can't- do anything about it. Here's why; Unlike AM, FM radio can have a tendency to interfer with itself due to reflections. It's entirely possible, in fact probable, that where your car sits in the garage, could be the null point of a couple of different reflections. It really has nothing to do with overall signal strength, but rather waves coming to the receiver out of phase with one another; one from the transmitting tower and another that has bounced off a building. This is known as multi-path. No matter how much you boosted the antenna signal, you'd still be amplifying the nulled signal and still get, essentially, nothing. Lemme ask you this; does it appear to depend on which station you're listening to? My guess is yes.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Twoply 0 #6 April 7, 2007 Yes it does depend on the station. I guess I should try moving it to the other wall?
