masterblaster72 0 #1 April 13, 2007 Forecast says showers and wind, high of 44 degrees. And I'm not nearly in the shape that I wish to be since I had a 2.5 month break due to a stress fracture. It's been a full year since my last marathon :-p ...so I'm relying on superstition more than any race I've ever done...even one vibe might help, anything. I'll even take a "f.ck you Paulie, hope you get pneumonia" Thanks... Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up. Not something that sounds appealing to me, but I hope you have a great time Well the Boston marathon is kind of prestigious since its necessary to qualify... I would like to run it myself but I'm not sure I have the skill/speed to qualify. Good luck... though My sister ran it a few years ago and it was 80+ degrees and 90% humidity... so 40 and raining doesn't sound so bad compared to that. sagan 0 #12 April 14, 2007 It always seems like it's one extreme or another for marathon Monday. Good Luck! Just think, you get to run by Wellesley College (among others) and have a horde of college girls cheer you on. Hell, when I was going to school at a school to remain unnamed there'd be people that qualified for this run just so they could strut onto Wellesley that coming weekend and be recognized. I stayed away from such shenanigans naturally. -Patrick

mcrocker 0 #18 April 15, 2007 Best of luck to you, It is snowing hard out here now, I'm 100 miles west of Boston and it is ugly out. Weather is predicting a 30-35 MPH headwind the entire marathon route. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, HAVE FUN!!! Can you run 26.2 miles in snow boots? The Qualifying times/requirements for the Boston Marathon are on their website. ntrprnr 0 #21 April 15, 2007 Qualifying for Boston is one of those things that I keep on my "supermodel" list. I.e., I know I'm never going to date a supermodel. I'll come close, but it'll never happen. And I'm ok with that, as I've made my peace with it. Same thing for running Boston legally. 3:15 for my age group? That's just freaking funny. So I'm ok with it._______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."

So I'm ok with it. I had my chance 17 years ago. Ran the Columbus, Ohio marathon in 3:29:12 when I was shooting for 3:10 with the goal to get into Boston. I hit the wall at 19 miles, then alternated between walking and running, sort of like walk 100 yards, run 300 yards, and so on, but the last 3 miles was pure torture, all of it in the final straightaway, right into a 15 mph headwind. The temperature outside? 35-40F.
