Muenkel 0 #226 March 1, 2007 QuoteMuenkel, I'm not sure if its the 'black' thing, I think its more of a 'Church' thing. April, don't misunderstand what I said about the black women. I'm not saying it is a 'black' thing, but rather that it is the black women this year who are the most talented IMO. Now let's talk Paula. You did an intervention, didn't you? She's looking hot this season and very lucid. Maybe as the season wears on, she'll fall off the wagon as well as her chair. I loved the comment by Simon last night when Ryan was going over the lyrics with the girl with the straight blonde hair. They were something like 'Bee bop boo bop....'. At that point, Simon said something like it sounded like the way Paula talks. Chris _________________________________________ Chris

No, I wouldn't do an intervention for Paula. I'm waiting for her to fall out of her chair so I can steal her shoes and leave her there with her feet up. I think she's not only slurring, but standing up and swaying lately (but she WAS good for one week). I meant I think THOSE two girls are from church. Trust me, I know first hand singing is not a black thang (I'll sing at your wedding if you're not sure you want to get married). Remember Ellen Greene from Little Shop of Horrors? She did a movie called 'Glory, Glory'. THAT girl can siiiiiiiiiiiing..and I think it comes out more because its about evangelists. ~~~April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo! [rant]Again, just because I have not said it this year, I will repeat my biggest gripe about the program: We are asked to vote for our "favorite" and not who we consider the worst I have a hard time choosing my favorite each week, but I can ALWAYS identify who needs to leave. Voting for the suckiest singer would prevent the hordes of worshippers from voting 20 times a night for their untalented high-school fave. Voting off the worst person each week would keep the best contestants in the running longest. The vote-off show this week was clear evidence of that. Sanjaya needed the boot two weeks ago. It's shit like this which got the incredibly-talented and now-super-successful Chris Daughtry voted off prematurely last season and let Taylor Hicks win the whole thing. Unbelievable.[/rant]

I think you might be onto something here. I wonder why they don't already do it that way? Maybe they WANT to keep the crappy ones so that people will talk and it'll keep shooting the ratings up. But let's look at this in the show's/advertiser's eyes. As long as the "hotties" who can't sing stay on, the young crowd will continue watching. If you notice most of the advertising, it's directed at a younger crowd (whether physically or mentally). And unless an older person really relates to or knows one of the singers, how many of them do you think are wasting their precious time to wait through all the busy signals to get a call through to vote for the "talent" not the "boobies"? But most of the younger generation LIVE on the phone and don't mind calling in a million times to vote for their favorite "hottie."Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? Muenkel 0 #238 March 6, 2007 Interesting comments by Chuck, boinky and Itdiver. One of the biggest problems with the voting is that there is a huge demographic, that I fall into, who are not going to spend 2 hours on the phone voting. This leaves the younger crowd hitting speed dial non-stop. I had a thought last year about this round. I'd like to see them keep all 24 contestants for these three weeks and add up their cumulative votes on the 3rd week. At this time 12 would be eliminated all at once. It would give all the contestants a chance to get used to the stage, put their criticism to practise and we as the audience would get a clearer picture of what each one is capable of. I think this would give a better chance at a more solid final 12. Chris _________________________________________ Chris
SkymonkeyONE 4 #239 March 7, 2007 I don't know, bro. That might give the "speed dialers" more time to keep some talentless idiot there instead of the true deservers. Again, I think the only fair way to vote is to vote for the worst every week.

There are systems that block you from voting twice (one call per household!)...that could work.~~April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo!
tigra 0 #241 March 7, 2007 After all these years, do you guys honestly think the public's votes even matter? The producers pick their favorites early on and manipulate the results for ratings, always keeping their handpicked favorites/ winners in the mix, even if they've performed badly that week. They may pay attention to the popular vote to some extent, but they still pick the winner in the long run. They keep a few high profile sucky ones on week after week and let a few really good ones go early just so there's a little drama every week! Even if they regularly produced vote counts audited by a reputable 3rd party (which as far as I know, they don't) I wouldn't buy into the BS because they could always pay people to vote. PLFXpert 0 #243 March 7, 2007 No doubt. I only caught the first half and that was all I could stand. The first two just irritated me--I admit when I first heard the 311 background music before Blake opened his mouth, I was excited. And then Blake started to sing it... And I decided right then AI needs to keep their repetuoire of songs limited to pop. What sincerely pissed me off was neither Randy, Paula or Simon had ever heard the song before. You're a judge in a music competition and you've never heard a song that was completely overplayed on the radio during its heyday? I understand not caring for certain genres of music, but if it was played on the mainstream radio and played as often as that one, a musical judge should be at least slightly familiar with it. You don't have to know who Sublime is to have heard and even know the words to Santaria. Same thing. I asked myself for the first time, "Why?" Why continue watching this show? I'm over it. Then Sundance attempted Pearl Jam. Granted I don't think Eddie Veder is/was incredibly innovative or amazing, but he definitely has a distinctive voice; and, like 311, I listened to my share of Pearl Jam. It was just the icing on the shitty Blakecake for me.... But there was one guy we'd heard about and were supposed to listen to, so I kept watching and then....he sucked, too. And that's my sweet review. P.S. I should note I don't dislike Blake. I just think he should stick to Timberlake.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. If THAT were the case, you can bet your ass that that fat-ass Ruben would never have won a few years ago. Same goes for Taylor Hicks. Nice guys, but they ain't making ANY money, nor do they have any other public success compared to some of the "losers." Nope, I am sure that it's the real vote-winners who advance. I doubt very, very seriously that some kid is going to vote for everyone but his favorite (by repeat dialing) if the voting were for the worst performance. With two exceptions, I thought the guys sucked badly last night. Beat-box boy was good. Chuck
tigra 0 #245 March 7, 2007 Well, it could be they throw in a few "underdogs" as winners so they can keep up their charade that "America" chooses the winner! As underwhelming as their post idol careers have been, I also don't see either of them winning legitimately with the public's votes either.
Muenkel 0 #246 March 7, 2007 Beat box boy was the only one who caught my attention last night. The rest....eh. As for the way the voting is handled, AI would be in a heap of legal shit if they did not abide by the voting rules to the letter. The judges definitely do their part to influence the vote, but I don't think they are as influential as some people may think. I'm beginning to think Chuck is right. Vote for the shittiest. Only problem with that is I would have voted for 7 guys last night. The ladies are far more talented. I look forward to their performances. As for naked chick though, she's really got to be voted off. She sucks ass compared to the other ladies. tigra 0 #247 March 7, 2007 What legal shit and what rules? This is entertainment, pure and simple. They've got disclaimers all over the place, the contestants sign all sorts of waivers and there is no real integrity to the voting process. Their ratings would be in trouble, that's about it! That's why they throw the viewers a "bone" every now and then by allowing an "everyman" to stay in the competition way longer than he deserves, or by "crowning" an illiterate unwed mother, an obese mama's boy or a likeable but ordinary guy next door. They take a hit on future record sales in favor of ratings and advertisement dollars.
Muenkel 0 #248 March 7, 2007 You cannot claim a competition is handled one way and then handle it in a completely different way. That's fraud and with a show as big as AI, if there was fraud; it would be exposed rather quickly I would think.
