Hmmmm - as long as you don't mind most apps not being as developed and no, the Gimp does NOT match Photoshop.

Or paint shop pro, which I prefer because it does raster and vector graphics. Photoshop only does raster.
Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

Luckily, I have a plan. They're only about $3000, so if everyboby here pitches in $20, I should hve it by next week. B|

I had a coworker who bought one, then decided it was just too big to lug around, so the next time he bought a smaller one. I originally had a 12" iBook for 3.5 years, and recently replaced it with 13" Macbook. I almost always use it plugged into an external 24" monitor with external kbd and trackball, so the size of the screen doesn't matter very much. And I paid less than half the price you are quoting including all the upgrades.

why own a Yugo when you can have a bmw ? ;):S

There; Fixed it for you. Being a Jeep owner for 20 years, I found your original comparison highly offensive.>:(

why the hell would you want a mac? Get an AMD cpu instead of an Intel if you wanna do media and get something good like a Voodoo or Falcon-NW, the only good Apple products are ipods. Remember, if you get a mac, you a minority and won't find th ebest hardware ans support...

Don't know a great deal about computers, but I've had PC's all my life & got a Mac approx 2-3 years ago (15" Powerbook G4) & LOVE it. Serisouly, I really can't imagine going back to PC's... just so much better all around. As for the hardware and programming - I haven't run into too much of a problem. I have all of my Microsoft Programming (word, excel etc) and nothing else has really conflicted. Guess Mac's aren't for everyone, but I loveeeee mine. (& I'm not in an art major or anything, so it's not really used for that although they're outstanding in that field)

IMO for programming linux works well. Graphics wise, Gimp doesn't come close to Photoshop but Gimp is also a lot less $$$. I've never had a problem with apps being under developed in linux either. I like macs and can deal with windows but linux is where it's at. Hell of a lot cheaper than buying a copy of OSX or Windows too...
