Do you own a Toyota Tacoma or 4-Runner (V6 5VZFE Engine) AND live in CA?

Recommended Posts

Hey,
I've got a big problem and really need someone's help. My 04 Tacoma has a problem with the engine and Toyota wants to see my Receipts for Oil and Filters for my truck... I religiously change my oil every every 5000 miles, but I haven't been keeping my receipts, because I never thought I would ever need them.

Is there anyone who lives in CA who has at least one receipt for oil and a filter? The filter must fit on the V6 5VZFE engine that's found on the Tacoma and 4-Runner on I think 95 thru 2004. And it can't have the VIN or Plate number for your vehicle on it. I'd prefer it to also be paid with cash, but beggars can't be choosers. Thanks a lot for the help!

Did you take your truck to one of those "Oil Change Places"? They keep pretty decent service records, and if you took the truck to the same place, you should get what you need. It would be even better if you took your truck to the dealer.

Did you change your oil yourself? Did you buy the materials at a store with a credit card? Use your credit car receipts.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Can't help ya there, but I ALWAYS keep all the service statements, especially on my 2001 Toyota Tundra.

It's easier to just look through the past few and know what your next service will involve.

I do all my service on my own, and they need proof that I purchased the particular filter that fits on my engine, not just a receipt for a "mystery item" from Kragen, so credit card receipts won't work. And if I can't come up with at least one receipt they said they won't help me and the cost could be up to $7000. And I'm a student, so that means I'm completely fucked if I can't get one.

Hmmm, is your tundra the V6 version?

Yes. I took it religiously to the dealership for regular maintenance until it reached 120K. It's still running great, but I am content enough to take it to a local mechanic from now on, and it's paid off. :)

Dude, go to Kragen and ask them for a copy of the transaction receipts. All those chain stores have computerized inventories and they not only have an itemized record of your transactions there, they'll probably help you out because if it's a part defect on an "OEM" like item, there's probably a warranty as well. At a minimum do it in case Toyota sticks you with the bill, you can always file a claim with the mfr of the part.
