Contact the electrician's local union and ask them the particulars. I'm pretty sure they give an aptitude test at least once a year. Here in Philadelphia, the electricians also have a "summer help" type program that is like a pre apprenticeship.

In Texas, you can get an apprentice license just by sending TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation) $20. The only reason they would deny you is for certain felonies, such as murder or rape. I work for an electrical contractors office, but I am in no way an electrician. It's a good trade to get in to.

Stay positive! ;)

If you want a formal apprenticeship, contact the IBEW.

Be prepared not only to work as an apprentice, but to spend 2-3 nights per week in class if you apply and are accepted into the program.

As someone said, it is a good trade to work in.

IBEW will get you the right training for sure, however if you even want to get considered you have to do the following.

1) Pass written comp test
2) Have passed a college agerbra course.
3) Have High school diploma or equiv.
4) Willing to sign contract for IBEW union.

When you journey out you can expect very good pay and lots of work if you are willing to travel a little.

Thanks for the infew. I was doing some searches myself, and the union is defidently the way that i want to go. My bio dad is an electrician, but he is too flakey to work for. hmmm, I wonder if i can even pass the test to even get interviewed for the union.
