Planet Earth on Discovery Channel

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else watch the debut tonight? That is one cool nature show! The shots that the film crew got from all over the world are amazing. It is a series that started tonight and will air on Sunday nights. I think it will have repeat epidodes on the Science channel.

They showed 3 last night. The first one was about following the sun. I missed the deep ocean, was it good?

pretty amazing footage.....
YES you CAN still LEARN things on TV..:)

as long as you watch the right channels...

I was, however, wiped out from the ELEVEN Hour marathon of The Deadliest Catch...:):SB|;)
( gotta love those Opies)...."meanwhile, 180 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor, Sig Hansen on the Northwestern, has been setting Pots well into the nighttime." hahahahaha

So it was tough to stay up to see all three shows of planet earth..
i hope they run those shows, often and repeatedly.....
I've always been fascinated with science and nature....:$

Did any of the footage appear to be fake to anyone else?

PS: It may just be because I don't have HDTV.

The website says it was filmed in HD, so maybe you are right about that. I think it was probably all real, they show behind the scenes stuff at the end of each hour and it took them 5 years to make.

even better in HD!

Watching Planet Earth last night was the first time I thought, "I would really like an HDTV." The shows (what I saw before I had to go to sleep) were just outstanding.

I have HD and I gotta tell you I end up watching stuff that I would normally never sit and watch. example Sunrise Earth on Discovery HD theater is nothing but watching a sunrise somewhere on planet earth. No music. No people. No drama. Nothing but a sunrise. But the picture is so clear it feels like you are there. HD is definitely worth it.

I watched some of the deep ocean episode, and I was thinking the same thing... it looked like computer animation in some of the scenes... This is a different subject completely, but did anyone watch "expedition borneo" or whatever it was called? It aired awhile back, but THAT was awesome...... ! Wow, I'm such a nerd... the only channels I watch anymore are discovery, TLC, History, and National Geographic... haha :P

I had this on while I was rowing yesterday afternoon (the first three episodes as I missed them last week.) although I couldn't hear any of the audio the visuals were amazing.

Also the Scene with the wolf/caribou hunt was tremendous motivation as I was so pulling for the little caribou to eek it out and get away... (even though I more or less knew better...)
Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...

It's also available on Amazon clicky - there's a nice clip there too, with a BASE jumper going into a big hole in the ground.

The cave of swallows.... I knew a guy who jumped that, I guess it's 1,400 ft. deep..... sounds like an amazing rush

sorry about the bad quality of this video (and the music.... eek!) but it's pretty interesting to watch

I've added the DVD Set to my wish list. This is one show that is making me want to spend money on HDTV. [:/] Only problem I have with it, is 1) money and 2) my cable company doesn't offer HDTV yet. :S

My wife has never been big into documentaries (unlike me, whose most watched stations are probably History Channel, TLC, Discovery, Discovery Healht and A&E) but she's into this show.

Even my son is totally digging it. Last night, they had a scene with seals hunting penguins. We were laughing at the sounds as a penguin and a seal were squaring off - it sounded more like a contest between burps and farts.:D
