BillyVance 35 #1 April 23, 2007 Can a spring intrasquad football game draw 92,138 fans, 40,000 more than ever before there, and shatter all conference and national records!?!? Believe it or not. It was this past Saturday. I'm not saying Alabama is gonna have a great season this fall, we'll probably lose 2 or 3 conference games as we have a young defense coming in. But damn... no college has ever filled their stadium for a spring game! I lived there for a few years, I know this for sure! Aye... Tuscaloosa ain't much of a town. Then again, it's way bigger than Auburn. Tuscaloosa couldn't even fill the stadium with its entire population. So all those people have to come from somewhere else. Truth is, all the big hype over Saban is what drew the fans in record-smashing numbers. Tennessee had the old record with 72,000 in 1988 and their stadium has over 100,000 seats. Got Saban? LSU don't, not anymore... Funny thing, coaches come to Alabama to win national championships, and 4 different coaches have done so. Saban is the only one to come to Alabama with a national championship on his resume already, hence the excitement. Another interesting fact, anybody remember the movie "Hooper" with Burt Reynolds and Jan-Michael Vincent? Remember the big stunt scene in the old industrial plant where they narrowly miss the falling brick chimney? Filmed right there in Tuscaloosa.
