boinky 0 #1 April 26, 2007 As you all probably know by now, the cost of mailing a letter that weighs one ounce or less is about to go up another 2¢ on May 14'th, from the current 39¢ to 41¢. In lieu of dealing with the constant future postage increases, the USPS is offering a "Forever Stamp." This special stamp is supposed to be usable no matter what the price of a normal stamp is. Don't be fooled. It is NOT just any 41¢ stamp that is a "Forever Stamp." It must be the one specified by the post office. They claim that this stamp will be effective "forever." Personally, I'm wondering how they plan on making a profit, or at least not losing their asses with this stamp. All someone needs to do is stockpile them. And then use them "forever." kelel01 1 #2 April 26, 2007 Because they know the postal service will be obsolete in 5 years or so.
boinky 0 #3 April 26, 2007 IMHO, I don't think that can happen. Have you ever tried to mail a package to an APO? UPS, FedEx, etc. will not mail to an APO. You HAVE to go to the USPS.Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? white_falcon 0 #4 April 26, 2007 All they have to do is quit printing the "forever" stamp, then just start charging the increased price again.
kelel01 1 #5 April 26, 2007 Well, I was mostly kidding. But consider this: you rarely have to mail letters nowadays. The only mail you get is crap. Even bills are paid online. And I don't see how a "forever" stamp would work on a package.
boinky 0 #6 April 26, 2007 Did you notice the "one ounce" letter requirement? You could use the stamp on a package, but it would only be worth the face value.Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? We've been paying some bills online. Not all of them though. Most of the mail I get are credit card offers. Those are the ones that go through the shredder. boinky 0 #8 April 26, 2007 I faithfully mail a card every Saturday to Mike. So, the post office has me hooked. While the "forever stamp" is a nice idea, I'm one of those that prefer the original stamps. I had romantic Disney ones, Lovebirds and I now currently have Hershey's Kisses (my favorite candy). So I doubt I'll be stocking up on the "forever stamp." Other than those cards, the only regular piece of mail that I send is the rent check. What they are hoping will happen is that a bunch of people will pre-buy a whole lot more stamps than they normally would. If the USPS can get an infusion of cash, they'll hopefully have a better financial plan for their future. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! JerryBaumchen 1,468 #10 April 26, 2007 QuoteAnd I don't see how a "forever" stamp would work on a package. It won't; last week a USPS employee told me that the 'Forever' stamp is restricted to 1 oz letters only and cannot be used two/time for heavier mail. It is very restrictive.
