Unfortunate, and sad...

Recommended Posts

When I was a freshmen in high school, we were forced to put our dog down... it was extremely sad. But it also led to me getting my dog Toby, who I think, of course, is the best dog in the world. I wanted to train him to be a therapy dog, like the ones you take to natural disasters and old folks' homes, but it turns out he has dog ADD and they would not license him. But he is still the best behaved, funnest dog ever.

Well my mother recently picked up a small puppy (bit of an empty-nest feeling since moving to college). The mother rejected the puppies, so my mom picked her up quite young about a month ago. At first, my dog Toby didn't really like the puppy. He avoided it, and kept to himself. But I guess lately they have really come to like each other. The new puppy, Trixie, LOVES Toby, and he has come to like her... i hear many stories of them playing and causing trouble and such.

But, there was an unfortunate occurrence this weekend. My parents left town for the weekend, and a neighbor watched the house. Both dogs had pig ears to keep them occupied, but I guess they caused more trouble than intended. It appears as though Trixie may have been harassing Toby, and he tried to tell her not to... accidentally biting her in the face, and right on her left eye.

Trixie went into surgery today... no way to know if the eye is gonna be okay for a couple weeks. But as you can see, she very clearly forgives Toby... and he feels terrible, and is afraid to even lie next to her now....

Trixie would be our second dog with only one eye if it doesn't make it. It doesn't make her loved any less... it's just sad. She is so energetic and playful, it breaks your heart to see her like this....

Send some good vibes! I attached a couple pictures... sorry for the lesser-quality post-surgery pictures, have to work with what mom can email...
It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye

That's really tough but shouldn't effect the pup too much. I once accidentally shot my best friend's setter's, coincidently named Toby, eye out with a BB gun 17 years ago when the dog was about a year old. Dog lived the rest of his long life with no problem at all and I named my new dog Toby in tribute.
The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

I have four dogs and all are protective of their "chewies". I suggest when doling out treats put each in a separate room or separate area of the house...maybe one can go out side to enjoy their treat. I am sure though now that the little one realizes that Toby won't put up with any more shenanagans from the wee one. Toby was doing what the head dog (in a small pack) would do...letting the other know that, "what I want I get AND keep!"

Both are very cute doggies!!:)

awww....both dogs are adorable.

I've seen dogs come into the ER with their eye out of the socket, and quite a few didn't lose vision in their eye.

Give the puppy an extra scratch or two for me.
Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.
