BillyVance 35 #1 May 3, 2007 The latest pics... What's next is calling the electrician back to do the final hookups and install the circuit breakers, and put up the new lights on the ceiling, plumbing hookups for the sink, DW and fridge, new trim and sills for the windows, trims and thresholds for the door and portals, and patch up the ceiling, sand and paint all drywall. I fucking hate doing the last thing. But man, when it's all done, it'll be worth it! BillyVance 35 #5 May 3, 2007 Quote That's an incredible transformation. I really like the floor. What is it made of? What are you going to do with yourself after it's finished? The floor is ceramic tile, Montagna Cortina to be specific, from Italy. What's next? Probably the damn roof. Needs a new layer of shingles, as well as build an extension of the back slope over the flat roof currently over the patio and around the chimney. We have had leaking problems through the flat roof around that chimney. We'll have to install new flashing around the chimney and put a cap on top to finally beat the leak. Thankfully it only leaks through the roof over the open-air patio, not through the in-house space. After that's done, I have a nasty bathroom to strip out and re-do. It's been sealed off for the past year. BillyVance 35 #8 May 3, 2007 Quote Looking great!! The crown molding had to be a bit of a challenge, no? Yeah, it was a motherfucker to do. The top of the cabinets ended up 4 inches from the ceiling, instead of 2 inches like I thought it would, and the crown moulding wasn't big enough to cover the 4 inches, so we had to take the triple bead wood which was 5 inches wide, saw 3 inches off each length, staple-gun them together with the triple bead flat on the top of the cabinet with the cut-off piece stapled in a vertical position, then staple-gun the crown moulding to that. Now the fucking ceiling wasn't perfectly flat either. It was a royal pain in the ass. If you're here looking at it, you can see the gap between the triple bead and the crown moulding vary from cabinet to cabinet. But you think about it, who's gonna want to get a crick in their necks just looking up that high? By the way, that fucking crown moulding cost $10 per linear foot, believe it or not! Dumpster 0 #11 May 3, 2007 Creative work with the crown! Yeah that shit is pricey. I hand-built a set of cabinets in my last house- All oak, everthing hand made, cabinets and all. Took about two years start to finish. Nobody will really notice the gap - It just sucks that you know it's there, so it's gonna bug you forever! IanHarrop 43 #13 May 3, 2007 Billy, I have to admit you've done one hell of a job. I'd have never believed that some hill-Billy from Alabama could have done this well. BillyVance 35 #14 May 3, 2007 Yeah, here's some of the original kitchen. I'll try and see about pairing up some before and after shots from about the same angle in each, but for now, these are the before, and the pics in the original post are the after. One of the sign language interpreters that we know, her husband does all kinds of construction, so he has been helping out here and there. I couldn't do this by myself, no way. We had some help, my friend has a cabinet-helper tool. It's like one of those floor stand poles. You get the upper cabinet in the general location you want, get that tool braced up underneath to hold it up against the wall, and then you can adjust it to the final position, and then drill and screw it to the wall, all without expending energy just holding it up. The whole job was still a bitch though. gonzalesna 1 #19 May 3, 2007 Love the wood grain...the whole place looks great man! Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.
