WatchYourStep 0 #2 May 2, 2007 I can't stand Mayweather but I think he'll be too much for De La Hoya. I'd like to see a younger De La Hoya (34 now) vs. the 30 year old Mayweather. I hope I'm wrong and Oscar wins but I doubt it. "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. Thanatos340 1 #5 May 2, 2007 I pretty much agree with everything you said. Oscar 4 or 5 years ago against Mayweather just a couple years ago would have been a GREAT fight. There is little question in my mind that Oscar has alot more Ring smarts. I wouldnt totally count him out yet. If I were to place any Prop bets.. I would take Oscar KO7 and Oscar KO8 and hedge it with Mayweather UD. Even with both fighters past thier prime, This should still be a great fight. Any word on the undercard?? PLFXpert 0 #10 May 2, 2007 I say Mayweather. I don't know why, but I used to like going to watch fight night with Billy. Never been before him--but get a few beers in me, some sweaty guys in shorts bouncing around, and I'm all in--yelling and all! Fun as shit.I like boxing, too. I like the lighter weights better though--more punching and grappling. The heavy weights get boring until one of them gets a good, solid jab in and knocks the shit out of the other guy. I love when I'm awake to see that.Ironically I can't stand real fights--find them a huge turnoff in guys. And never hit anyone in my life, except Billy in play. I like to pretend I'm a boxer.Edit: Also ironically, Billy supposedly was a state champion wrestler and undefeated in a fight. When I met him he even had a black eye (long story, don't jump to conclusions...). Yowza, I'm talkative tonight! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. Richards 0 #16 May 3, 2007 I like De La Hoya but he is not the same fighter he used to be. Also he is not current, and once you start commiting time to endeavors other than boxing while keeping one foot in the ring you are courting disaster. Oscar has guts and will put on a good show but ultimately I suspect Mayweather will probably be too much for him. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
DSE 5 #17 May 3, 2007 QuoteWho is getting the fight this weekend and Who is your Pick?? Dish HD!...14' screen, just like being there. Mayweather will take De La Hoya, probably by decision. It's not gonna be a bloody fight as some predict, I don't think. Both fighters have too much style and come from the "hit and don't get hit" school. The undercard has now been announced, and it looks like a great night in front of the screen.

hisgoofyness 0 #22 May 3, 2007 My money is on the De La Hoya by KO in the 9th! I think the "old man" has one more KO to deliver! But regardless, it should be a good fight. Goudha is for Buddha, and that's good enough for me!

lawrocket 3 #24 May 3, 2007 I'd bet on Mayweather to win the fight. Who will take the decision is anyone's guess. Part of it is that I juts have no idea what the hell De La Hoya is gonna do. Another part is you never know whether the judge's will hand Oscar a win he didn't deserve (Pernell Whittaker?) or take a win from Oscar that he did deserve (Trinidad?) De la Hoya has some pluses. He's bigger, has a damned good jab and pretty good left hook. There's no doubt that jabbing will be key to De La Hoya's victory in an attempt to set up that hook and tire Mayweather out, and turn the fight into a brawl, in which De La Hoya has the advantage. Oscar also has a steel chin. But, Mayweather is a great defensive fighter. Mayweather is lightning quick. Did the weight gain drop that? While De La Hoya's experience, strategy and tactics have always been good, Mayweather's may actually be better. Mayweather won't let De La Hoya dictate the style into a brawl. Then again, I don't know if Oscar can find it to be a brawler - he's always been a boxer. I think it'll come down to the later rounds. Mayweather won't get any real good shots in to Oscar's head (he's too tall) but will wear him out with body blows. As time goes on, De La Hoya will go back to his old style and look to counter with the left hook, which I don't think Mayweather will allow. Neither boxer will get knocked out. Even if Oscar has lost a lot of his stamina, he had amazing stamin all along. Mayweather won't have the power to knock De La Hoya out. Mayweather, unanimous decision, depending on the judges. A boring fight for the casual fight fan. A great fight for the boxing afficianado. My wife is hotter than your wife.
