drjump 0 #1 September 13, 2006 Help, I've lost my Para- Commander owners manual. What is the factory original line length of a Mark I PC?
pchapman 279 #2 September 13, 2006 Gary Lewis' Para-Commander handbook only says 21' to 22.5' for a Mk 1 PC that hasn't been shortlined. Being a PC newbie, that seems to be a rather inexact spread. PS - a more descriptive subject line would help, not many people curious about line length issues in general are going to be ParaCommander jumpers... JerryBaumchen 1,445 #3 September 13, 2006 Hi pchapman, It is NOT a spread of line length dimensions. The lines on the front of the canopy are longer because the skirt actually is higher up at the front. This was to let more air into the canopy when inflated. drjump 0 #4 September 13, 2006 Thanks--This measurement gives me something to go with in order to figure out how much an ole USPA team canopy has been shortlined!
pchapman 279 #5 September 13, 2006 The same booklet also had suggested shortlining limits: For a Mk 1 PC, minimum 18'. And descent rate won't increase noticeably if shortened to 20' (if over 190 lbs "jumper weight") 19' (if under 180 lbs) 18' (if under 150 lbs) (Sounds like they were perhaps thinking of the actual jumper's weight, not weight with gear.) All I have are a booklet and 3 PC jumps...

drjump 0 #7 September 13, 2006 Thanks, John. I knew I could count on an Old Round jumper. I short lined this particular canopy in 1976 and could not remember how much I cut the lines. All of the work was recorded in the Houston Parachute Service loft log books. I don't know if Ron still has them or not. HPS closed in the late 70's.--Don-
freakflyer9999 1 #8 September 13, 2006 Hey Doc. I have a PC manual you can have the next time I see ya. I heard you were going to be at Gainesville this weekend, so if I don't get my layoff notice Friday, I'll be there on Sat. Kenny G.
