Refrigerator help

Recommended Posts

For awhile now there's been a funny smell coming from my fridge. No...it's not rotten food. I've completely emptied it and cleaned it out. It's more of a chemical smell. If I knew what refrigerant smelled like I could say it was leaking. But it's been like this for over a month now so I would think that the refrigerant would have leaked out completely by now.

Any ideas?

if you've cleaned and can not find where it comes from... I would suggest you to get a box of Baking soda (you can get at Walmart for a buck or less) and leave in the fridge for 3 months.
it helps with bad odors.

Is it inside or outside the fridge?

Most units have catch pans both inside and outside the units. These can collect water/food ect. When that stuffs goes off, you get a smell. if it was refrigerant leaking, it would not cool well, and eventually quit cooling completely. Freon has a strong smell too, and it would become more pronounced when the unit kicked on (most likely).
