The herpes simplex virus, Streptococcus pyogenes (GABHS) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus, adenovirus, and the measles virus cause most cases of acute pharyngitis and acute tonsillitis. aaron111533 0 #29 May 11, 2007 Not a doctor but a chornic tonsilitis sufferer myself - I almost had to have emergency surgery to take them out once it was so bad. Ask for the real hydrocodone - You don't want the 5/500's you want the 10/325's. They have more hydrocodone and less acetamenophin. (Otherwise known as tylenol) That should help with the pain. Then keep hitting it hard with antibiotics (Get some other antibiotics if it doesn't get better soon) and take vitamins, drink a lot. Squeak 17 #30 May 11, 2007 I had similar symptoms when i was 20, I left work on Friday and spent the weekend in bed, with what i thought was justtonsilitis (i used to get it once or twice ayear) on Sunday my Roomie (a 1st year Med Student) Drove me to the ER. They pumped a pint of anti biotic in me and i was in hosptial for 5 days, I dont reccall what they said it was (23 years ago) but it was a bit more servere than just tonsilitis. My my throat and glands was inflamed and my windpipe had constricted, to a very small diametre. The ER doc said I may not have woken up tomorrow if i had not gone in when i did. your may be something completly different but i'd go see the Doc again anyways You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! Broke 0 #31 May 11, 2007 I once had a case of toncillitus as a parting gift from an ex. I had to take 500mg of PCN 4x a day for a week. Those pills were huge and nasty. The ent shoved a camera up my nose so he could get a better view. that felt funny. I hadto chug a lot of water with each pill to get it down PCN taste like moldDivot your source for all things Hillbilly. bigorangemd 0 #32 May 11, 2007 Sounds like it really hurts. Should get better in a few days. If it is getting harder to swallow, here's a few things to watch for: Unable to swallow liguids. It may hurt, that's ok but if you can't and are drooling because you can't swallow, you should be seen. A hollow staccato voice - called a "hot potato voice" Sounds like a high choppy voice. These are signs of a peritonsillar abscess which must be drained. If you have these, be seen. Otherwise give it a day or two, plenty of fluids, rest and antibiotics, and it should get better.
